an oldie fmv was Xfiles, i remember you had to put data and facts together in case files, there were some point and click aspects to it tho.. but still... xfiles! fmv! too fun

while we are going down this route why not add Blade Runner, old fmv. it may be too linear for you and puzzleish tho
BTW I have to say Contradiction : Spot the Liar is actually AWESOME. The acting was quite good.

100% exactly what I had in mind. I think it's only one case (like In the First Degree), but for that price, I can't complain.

Scouting around Steam after looking at Contradiction I found this :

https://store.steampowered.com/app/882960/Visitor/

With broken English here and there. Probably will count as "charming" for some. But still looks decent and interesting as well. Most of all, cheaper than Contradiction.

Also :
Late Shift
https://store.steampowered.com/app/584980/Late_Shift/

Tender Loving Care (never heard of this game but Nightdive re-release it)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/593900/Tender_Loving_Care/

Probably the previously suggested Shapeshifting Detective and The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker are fall into the same category as well.

But I'll go slowly, one at a time. I'll be busy with Contradiction this weekend.

While we're at it, I'm currently playing the Painscreek Killings. It's advertised as a sleuth game, and if I undertand well it ends with questions on mobile, culprit, and weapon, but for the tme being it feels more like an Ether One-like walking simulator about finding the correct keys and padlock codes, and finding, reading, cross-referencing tons of diaries. Not much forensics so far.

Still, hooked. And it is an investigation on a murder's cold case, in a now conveniently deserted village. So it may still qualify.

Ahh, I'm pleased that Contradiction scratches that itch for you. It's quite a charming experience, isn't it?

Thanks to everyone who recommended something. There's clearly an appetite out there for mysteries and detective stories, and plenty of interesting games fly under the radar.

(Side note: Late Shift and Tender Loving Care are available on GOG too.)
After playing Contradiction a while, it got it quirks.

Here're my comments :

- The actor playing the protagonist (Jenks) is specially overacting.

- Mostly you recall the interviews and find contradictions between one another (hence the title).

- You don't find contradiction between characters (char A's statement contradicts char B's statement, etc). Just contradictions within a character statements (char A's statement 1 contradicts his/her statement 2).

- No elements of body language (like in LA Noire), the actors mostly do it casually when they're lying. Only when you find the contradiction, their body language is drastically changed. The actors are actually capable of pulling it off. But the game don't utilize this as in LA Noire.

- Some elements of point and click adventure, but it's quite simple. Even though this got me stuck for quite a while.

- UI is clean, but still confusing on what to do. No tutorials or whatoever. This also got me stuck for a while. But after find my way around it's very simple and quite pleasant to navigate. It is good they implement fast travel too.

Just take a note, I'm still very early in the game.

Nevertheless, it's a good game overall. I genuinely enjoy playing it. Do I recommend it? If you got itch like me, this game really scratch it well.

While I'm here, thought I update OP with all the suggested games here. Hopefully it'll help anyone who crave another LA Noire-ish and In the First Degree-ish games.

Thanks guys.
Bumping the thread since the main recommendation from my friend appeared in Epic Store.

Heavy Rain is coming to PC!

Also seems all other Quantic Dream's PS3/4 exclusives (Detroit and Beyond Two Souls) are coming as well.

Seeing the gameplay seems Heavy Rain started really slooowww, and actually controlling the daily chores, brushing teeth, playing with the protagonist's kid, etc.

Detroit seems to be better game of all, but Heavy Rain is about crime solving.

Any opinions on these recent Quantic Dreams game? Which one do you prefer?

Thanks in advance!
I found Golden Gate Killer iso

Game works on windows XP (with glitches and such, might take a look at this further), but it should run better on Win 3.x (use virtualbox or something).

it's in archive.org

also In the First Degree is there

since I don;t know the legality of the said file, just use the search facility there.

Cheers.
