RIP Lionhead, black and white, and Fable studio. I liked the first Fable.

More shooters for the xbone seems like the right thing to do for M$.

To be honest I thought they were already closed. I haven't been interested in anything they've put out for over a decade.
Weren't they developing the new F2P Fable?
Oh nevermind, seems like the game is gone too.

You were expecting them to keep the studio on the payroll forever?
well... the only thing we got from them in the last 10 years was Fable games, and even then the last one was just a HD remake. they have really not done anything of value since... i dont know when... 2010? with Fables II?

I can see why i is closed down.
Honestly, it's not like what EA did. EA due to structure changes, relocating workers, and so on. I didn't even knew Lionhead was still working - sure, Black&White was cool, and so do Fable, but that was AGES ago. You can't just keep studio open because it was legend back in the day.

Fable Legends?
It revealed the news that Fable Legends - long in beta, and even longer in development - was no more.
After much consideration we have decided to cease development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees about the proposed closure of Lionhead Studios in the UK.
EDIT: Didn't register the second line having been added to omega64's post, oh well.

is anybody honestly surprised ?

especially after the kinect crap
im surprised rare is still an ongoing concern
You have a franchise that had great promises (the Molyneux effect) but never delivered, it was drag on all this time, even with a kinectic game that no one wanted (the Mattrick effect) so yeah, no one was going to be interested in a faded franchise as a f2p game.

Microsoft just doesn't have awareness of the gaming market, they fucked up their franchises and they don't even know what people want, Rare is next on the pipeline to be given the boot...
Didn't realize they hadn't been shuttered years ago.

I always remember thinking Black and White looked like a very interesting concept, especially the morally "evolving" creature. Is there a fairly full featured god game in there as well, or is it all indirect control with the creature and spells?

I wouldn't mind this one showing up here actually, and would probably be more likely than not to give it a go. Hopefully they sort rights and such before this goes down.
Such a shame :/
sad :(
Maybe not selling their games anywhere (The Movies), wasn't such a great idea.
Lionhead hasn't been closed yet. At this stage it is only proposed. People seem to be skipping that fact and immediately jumping to it already being decided. While ultimately closer is the most probably outcome, it's not 100% certain at this time.
For the life of me I don't know why Microsoft is in gaming at all. The vast majority of the money they make has been in business software and business servers, etc.
