Elmofongo: LEAGUE OF LEGENDS IS NOT AN MMORPG!!

MOBA is not the same as MMORPGs.

Why do people keep saying that League of Legends is an MMORPG? Dota 2 is not an MMORPG, Heroes of the Storm is not an MMORPG?
whatever

semantics

its an f2p game that hauls in enormous amounts of money
thats all that matters and that's all the suits care about

Pardinuz: RIP Fable. Sad to see another studio go.

But Fable Lengends...? I didn't even know that was a thing. That series went downhill quickly. Did they honestly believe another F2P MMORPG was a good idea?...
The world of Fable doesn't really have rich enough lore for an MMO IMO. They saw Elderscrolls with its huge background and history and said "We can do that too!"

Fable has always been an RPG lite to me with little lasting story and less background.
Wait until Rare gets grabbed by the ghoulies. If their last few years of output are any indication, they are on borrowed time.
After the Godus debacle, I really do not care.

they tanked so hard since 2001

Is that game even coming out this year?

Well, if this newest game that they are working on tanks I imagine that they will be gone without a second thought. I cannot see where they have been a good source of revenue the last few years. Doesn't help that Rare has been a shell of it's former self since the Stamper brothers left. One could even argue that the trouble began when Microsoft purchased the company.
Gutted. I've been a big fan of Lionhead’s work since Black & White first released in 2001 and thought I’d visit the studio at some point to steal their super fluffy Lionhead-branded rug (think they just had the one and gave it to another fan though). Many of the old Bullfrog guys who were part of Lionhead moved on years ago, so I guess I'm basically mourning a mop that has had its handle and head replaced. Still, it’s never nice to see developers out of work.

Rare made a lot of money for MS designing the Xbox avatars.

Yes I'm serious.

i think it began even before microsoft bought rare in 2003
they never seemed to regain their footing after the n64

starfox adventure is a reanimated corpse of agame
and grabbed by the ghoulies isnt exactly spectacular either and then they suddenly became dormant
only to spit out three tepid lumps a few years later and turn in to a kinect machine

amok: well... the only thing we got from them in the last 10 years was Fable games, and even then the last one was just a HD remake.
To be fair, I thought the remake was pretty great (the gameplay or writing in retrospect no so much, though) and was seriously impressed by the new graphics and technical quality of the remake (excluding a big error in the final cutscene). I was hoping they would eventually also release a revamped version of Fable II for PC. Guess that's not gonna happen. :/

To be fair, Lionhead dug their own grave with Microsoft trying to be their for support. It was the only logical thing they can do when the studio isn't creating anything special anymore.

Exactly. And even The Elder Scrolls Online didn't manage to successfully pull it off despite the huge success of the series. Fable is indeed a lite RPG with corridor levels. It was a very ambitious decision to jump from that into an open world MMORPG.
More disappointed about this "Additionally, we will close Press Play Studios in Denmark"

Kalimba is a lot of fun as was Max: The Curse of Brotherhood

and the excuse "These changes are taking effect as Microsoft Studios continues to focus its investment and development on the games and franchises that fans find most exciting and want to play"

franchises being the word........:(

Games aren't successful unless they spawn a franchise??? That whole way of thinking is rubbish. Thank goodness for the indies

That's why movies (and to a lesser extent TV) are so often repeating the same old cliches.....

I want to play original, unique games too. Not Assassins Creed sequel 23

What is ironic about Lionhead is they've become a studio that relied solely on one franchise

Same might be said for Team17 and Worms. At least they have branched out publishing other indie games.

Miss the days of Team17 Amiga releases. They were always exciting times when games had that "new-car" feeling about them. Would love to see something truly new from Team17

Or what about the Psygnosis and Bitmap Brothers games? I see they are bringing out a new Shadow of the Beast but currently only listed for PS4???????? What the...........??

Oh god i must be old. Rambling and such........:D

They might as well be. They're worthless* online-only products you can't buy that are only around because of jocks and alphas with their need to beat their chests and compete.

* Except good at extracting money from the stupid people who contribute money to F2P bullshit.
This isn't like EA.

Origin, Bullfrog, Maxis, Westwood... all of these studios had the potential to keep making great games. Instead they were shifted around, renamed, closed down or merged into something else.

Sigh.
