Focused on Steam because it's the biggest and they were very supportive of the work we wanted in order to make sure our ecosystem stayed connected. So always looking at the future, there's nothing against GOG or EGS that says we wouldn't be able to support those, but right now we're focusing on the two stores that we've announced.

Why would they release back catelogs here when they just announced Xbox Pass for PC and Xbox Pass Ultimate. For those that own consoles and a PC they can now have a single sub that pays for game pass and live sub in a single price, I wouldnt be suprised the next OS will be sub since majority of companies now moving towards sub/cloud gaming.
Offline play will be like old consoles (soon to be old OS's) same how offline music and movies / TV is now.
And the way things are going old games are a gold mine. (Look at classic games these days how they are bringing in so much hype its usually a selling point to jump on subscription services with the "Backlog catelogs")

They know most people will never pay for that.
Just like not all movies and music is monthly subscription and you can still purchase movies on Blu-Ray discs and music on CD's.

They also have plans with nintendo? doesnt mean it will sell games directly on the eShop. It means if you have a xbox pass you can play xbox games on the switch via the streaming service. It means GOG integration with Microsoft the same they have with Discord which is awesome. I cannot wait to use GOG 2.0 to manage all these services now because its starting to be fragmented.
Its going to be like how netflix is battling to keep content on the service the more content they loose and isnt exclusive the higher chance people will unsub. People want to klnow that if they sub the catelog is big to justify paying even if they are not even going to touch any of the games.
So those old classic games you'd better off trying to have that part of your subscription as a exclusive because it gives X amount of people to subscribe to your service.
Ubisoft is starting to do it with Ubiplay+ with "100 games" catelog. Smart since they stop selling on steam, They get a kick money from Epic Games so they just put it on there anyways for the funding and they have a subscription service that allows all games (including new) with all DLC with a single subscription that cost approx 2.5 standard games with no DLC a year.

In any case I tweeted Phil (who seems like a good guy and sometimes replies to folks), politely encouraging him to let MS give GOG a chance at Freelancer and old MS games; maybe it could have been worded better but it is what it is. You can add your voice too if you want. https://twitter.com/tytbone/status/1140110169428418561

"You mentioned wanting to get your games onto as many platforms as possible. Does that include the Epic Games Store and GOG?"
"GOG has some specific rules that they set, as does Epic right now, about what games we can put [on them], what other stores they can be available in. We're still in the situation of what I said in the blog post of, we recognise that there are other stores out there. We want to be supportive of the other stores that are at scale—because I can also spend a lot of time porting to a ton of different stores and not actually make progress with the games, which I think is the most important part. Focused on Steam because it's the biggest and they were very supportive of the work we wanted in order to make sure our ecosystem stayed connected. I doubt it will be about the same type of releases they plan with Steam but it would be weird if not for at least some of their classics aka the before mentioned Freelancer.

Partnering up to basically let Galaxy 2 get info (achievements, friend list, etc.) from XBox, I think.

At least they are talking...
Now it's up to GoG to convince them that it would be best to let GoG do the compatibility work for the old games, saving them the time and effort, and release those old games on both platforms.
