Hm, is this the right time to install Postal II again?

I did and I was reminded of how poor the gameplay was. In my opinion, the problem isn't the edgy humor or the violence, but that the game was pretty bad to begin with. Without the edgy humor, the game is as forgettable as every other mediocre FPS from the '90s and early '00s.

It reminds me of all those meme games over at Steam, it's almost like the prototype meme game.

LootHunter: If Dave Chapelle's "Sticks&Stones" and "Joker" movie are any indication, you're wrong.

Darvond: Those both have points. I'm not certain Postal has a point aside from, WOW LOOK AT HOW SHOCKING THIS IS, like Hatred, Agony, and other such games.
Postal 2 is one of the most innovative, subversive and original games that the stagnant FPS genre has put forth. It manages to be transgressive in ways that heaps of indie shovelware attempted and failed at - all the while being amazingly fun as well. Some of that genius might have been accidental - indeed, neither the Apocalypse Weekend expansion nor Paradise Lost were able to successfully recapture that same magic. I'm highly doubtful they'll hit the ball out of the park with Postal 4. But on it's own merits Postal 2 is a perfect thing - both as a scathing satire of post-9/11 America and as a clever inversion of FPS clichés.

The supposed "shock value" of Postal 2 has been greatly exaggerated. Compared to something like Soldier of Fortune or even Doom 3, the violence in Postal 2 (at least in the vanilla version) is actually quite tame and entirely played for laughs. Playing fetch with your dog using severed heads... How could anyone take this seriously?

Hatred, on the other hand, is rather mediocre and Agony (from the 40 or so minutes I played) seems outright bad. I really don't see any similarities between these games other than "muh controversy".

Considering that there's a mod that allows for Co-Op play I'd say very much so. It's a damn good game to play while completely plastered and with people who are as intoxicated as you.
At least the game is being developed by Running With Scissors, and not those Russian developers. I also heard that Jon St. John is voicing the protagonist.
Who knows it might be good or at least decent, but Postal games were never GOTY material. I think that in this day and age we need more games with edgy and dark humor.
The game looks good, looking forward to it.

Yeah, according to the Steam page he is, wow.

Reviews are positive, that's cool.

Darvond: Here's the trailer.

Now personally, I think the place and time for Postal is much like that of Duke Nukem or Redneck Rampage. The past.

I know some of you are going to be clamoring for the game here, but I'm not so sure the devs are deserving of passing though the gauntlet of curation considering how the developers largely treated GOG as a second rate place.
Indeed. I am kind of looking forward to seeing how good the game is when it shows up on Epic Games Store as a weekly freebie in N months though.

The game is really for a certain kind of player. It's better to think of Postal II as being a sandbox game before anybody really knew what a sandbox game was. There's something rather satisfying about gunning down an entire marching bad when I'm having a bad day.

As far as being forgettable, isn't that like virtually all games of the era? How many of them do people really remember that aren't by iD or 3d Realms? You'll probably run out of titles rather quickly as the bulk of the remainder are Unreal.

Indeed, compared with the original Postal, Postal II just isn't that shocking, it's more or less a parody game to the point where I'm not really sure how anybody could be particularly shocked.

The movie, OTOH, was plenty shocking and arguably the only decent thing that Uwe Boll has ever contributed to film history.

I mean if we're talking late 90s to early 2000s, that includes titles like System Shock 1-2, Deus Ex, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Operation Flashpoint, Soldier of Fortune 1-2, Strife, MOHAA, RTCW, Vietcong, Half-Life, NOLF, Counter-Strike... pretty memorable, I'd say. And I think Postal 2 is quite memorable too; as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing wrong with being memorable for eggy humour and generally a different (sandboxy) approach to gameplay.
Not a huge fan of the Postal games because the gameplay is weak. It's fun playing as a homicidal maniac for about ten minutes, then it gets to be boring. The designers were so intent on being shocking and edgy they forgot about the basics of gameplay. And the humor and satire is not one fifth as clever as the designers thought it was. The satire, in particular, was painfully obvious.
Postal 3 was a obvious cash grab,and I didn't bother.
If people want to play if, fine, I have no problem with GOG selling it. But they won't get my money.
I also have an issue with Postal fans, you criticize the games for any reason, including gameplay, and many of them will jump on you for being closeminded and a prude and in favor of censorship.

Yep. I've felt the same ire directed towards me for daring to suggest the reason that GOG may not want Grimore is because the developer is a known PITA and honestly it doesn't look all that hot a game. It's been in development hell for over a decade and it bloody well shows.

paladin181: Postal is great. Postal 2 was awesome. There was a Postal 3? Apparently it really sucked. is the by the visionaries who did the first two or the less talented group trying to cash in on a name with the third?
Postal was nice, Postal 2 was mediocre but hilarious at some moments, Postal 3 was a disaster. Postal 4 is inplayable and it looks and feels like Postal 2 for some reason.
Postal IV looks like a fan made mod for Postal 2. It's a very early access, so wait & see !
