The polarizer will sap light from entering the camera; however because that light is lost before it reaches the sensor and the exposure meters the cameras built in meter should already account for the light loss from the polarizer.

So you shouldn't get underexposed photos from using it unless you start shooting in manual mode without the polarizer and then attach it and don't adjust your settings for the new light levels.

I haven't posted anything since I got to China, so here's some pics. 1 is from the Spring festival in Yangshuo, 2 is a train station somewhere between Guilin and Changsha, 3 and 4 are from just outside the school I teach at as is 5.

I'm not quite sure which is better 3 or 4, but I kind of like the landscape orientation better.

There's something in the forum engine about the original post taking only one attachment, but I believe you can use the edit feature to subsequently add more attachments to that post.

I am a photography major,, and I do documentary, street, and photojournalism. I've also done some sports and some other fine art-related stuff, but the three first categories are my favorites.

Weird, looks like you're correct about that. You can only add one attachment each time you click submit, the others sit there, but don't actually attach. Well, thanks.

Thanks, the noise level was by accident, I literally only had a few moments in the train station, but due to the subject matter I think it works for the image better than the cleaner version would.

This is one of the other ones I have hanging around. I'll probably go on a walk later and see what else I see.

Thanks, I need to get out and take more pictures. I hope to have a healthy collection of fireworks pictures in the near future. The Chinese set them off most nights and they're pretty impressive.

Also, getting out and taking some pictures really relieves a lot of the stress in my life.

The first two are from Sprint Festival and the last two are from today. I can't believe how well that last image turned out.

Did you take any photos of Chinese New Year this year? Should be grand over there since it's the year of the Dragon.

It was basically the last day of Chinese New Year or something along those lines. I'm not as versed in Chinese holidays as I probably should be. And they seem to have one of some sort just about every week.

As for the nightshots, no, the P&S I'm using has a pretty good image stabilization system to it and the lens itself is maxes out at a real 150mm. Overall I've been pretty impressed with how well it shoots. Sometimes I carry a monopod with me, but I don't believe I had it with me that night due to the crowds.

The dragon fly isn't something I could have shot with my other camera as the mutliplier on the sensor yields an equivalent of 840mm if you ignore things like the magnification and DoF.

Nice. I always use a tripod or some form of support for nightshots though. They can advertise how well the camera can handle high ISO noise and have lens that uses 1.8f etc, that's just an added plus for me, doesn't really matter since I've a tripod most of the time when i'm serious for photo taking sessions. Most of the time, for night shots, I'm using f8-f11 or even smaller apertures, and the metered exposure will normally come to around 5-8 seconds depending on the brighness of the scene and set aperture which is way too long for me to hold steadily :)
