Become the Ultimate Vampire!

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is now available for pre-order, DRM-free.

Written by the creative mind behind the original Bloodlines, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 brings the ambitions of the first to life and sees the return of a few fan favorite characters.

Immerse yourself in the World of Darkness and live out your vampire fantasy in a city filled with intriguing characters that react to your choices. You and your unique disciplines are a weapon in our forward-driving, fast-moving, melee-focussed combat system. Your power will grow as you advance, but remember to uphold the Masquerade and guard your humanity... or face the consequences.
I am certainly looking forward to this, with Mitsoda as lead writer again I am certainly looking forward to this. We don't have enough info to make a call on the tone and "sjw" points it will or won't make. But in fairness BL1 was FULL of political commentary most of it at the expense of the right. soooo... shrug

Either case if anyone wants a central news, community place to keep up with this game feel free to check it out at the addy worldofdarkness.news
Current price is just ridiculous, especially for Poles. 215 PLN for the lowest package is just insane, especially since it's a pre-order and game may turn out to be shit (very likely considering this: https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2019/03/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines-2-gets-woke-with-pronouns-modern-day-politics-masculine-subversion/80691/ ).

Mitsoda from Eurogamer:

"We identified what we needed to do, things we really needed to improve. Obviously combat was one of the things from the first one that was really not very good. But also the tone of the game - it's 2019 now. We have to update the tone, we're not going to make a 2004 game in 2019, we're going to approach subjects a little differently and with a lot more research and respect than was done back then."

WTF? If I had this game on my wishlist I would have unwishlisted it for that fact alone (I haven't wishlisted the game knowing precisely that it will end like this despite being a huge VTM fan).

Wratheon: Like I said, I believe in Mitsoda and Avellone; they'll most likely do a good job as far as they're allowed to. My worry is in how Ellison handled the interview and a few things that she said. I wasn't aware that she'll be mostly dealing with side-quests or minor writing, but I'm glad that you informed me.

Frankly the gender selection doesn't really bother me much either, even though it feels out of nowhere if it's well implemented I could see it working in the game's favor (it's modern Seattle after all, so they can definitely put it to good use). What worries me is how they considered the first game a "male power fantasy" and how they may tone things down or limit themselves so they don't offend, which can lead to a not so fleshed out experience. This said, I am glad that the character creation will have different body types, for instance, this is something that I'm interested in seeing; I hope we can find many different NPCs as well, and of course I hope we can be a dick to them and their appearance if we so desire (if I am a Nosferatu, I really want to be a dick one).
Wasn't Mitsoda who Picked Ellison, though? In the keynote, she says They (including the lead writer) "...brought me over..."

https://youtu.be/g8qsxNt3f0Y?t=213

Honestly, to me her presence is the only thing that raises a few doubts (we know too little about the game at this point, admittedly). She sounded quite "wounded" by the rape scene in Hotline Miami 2, and Bloodlines has plenty of dark stuff, so I do worry about them making things bland, so to speak. A narrative can't be powerful if it plays it safe, I think.
I got excited, at first. Now I'll wait to see how it turns out. Price is prohibitive, and not a fan of "season pass" stuff. Would not want to see heavy micro-transactions. And if they do inject 2019 politically correct standards into it, well, ugh.
I'm prepared to judge the game on its own merits and flaws, you know, once it's actually released. The Outer Worlds was a good recent lesson as to why you shouldn't listen to prerelease hype articles.

But a $90 dollar preorder? Jeez Louise, nothnx
I remember getting a demo disc for the first game and playing it over and over again. Unfortunately I never did get the full version and have to this day never played a Vampire game. They look amazing and I think I need to finally get them played. They should buy me plenty of time to keep an eye on this one while it develops. I can’t wait to get my demo disc of this one! ;)

yzane: mac please
I've been waiting for that too! Running on Mac is a must.

The politics don't truly bother me, nor the modernisation with genders, pronouns etc. To be honest, the whole masculinity of the game never bothered me, but, as a woman, I'm interested to see how they'll deliver sexiness for both sides - fair is fair, boys.

BUT, the price is truly absurd; the fact that it has three different editions or whatever is rubbish and 1 year is definitely too far ahead to be releasing pre-orders without anything too consistent about the game.

Also, the fact that they wouldn't make it run both on PC and Mac is a turn off.

I'm excited, but... But.

Let's wait and see.

Great. Another first person game that I can't play because of motion sickness.

Yay!

I don't know how far their relationship goes, but perhaps Mitsoda shares ideals with her (it's been 15 years since VtMB after all, people change) and that also worries me a little bit.

I also believe that a narrative must take risks and provoke thought, and in the World of Darkness, there's a lot of gritty things, if they're going to keep from adding themes such as rape just because it may bother some people (including Ellison), then the story will probably be watered down to the point it shows that it's out of place in the universe. It is still a bit early to judge though, I'll agree with you on that, but I'm definitely worried about the direction that Bloodlines 2 will take.

the crazy price tag, number of digital gewgaws and chachkies for a single player RPG, and the amount of time between now and release are way waaay bigger red flags to me and says more about its potential quality than any internet commentary on writing probably only a few dozen people in the world have seen

I commented on all that on my original post. I am trying to be optmistic, but it's been hard to. I guess we just have to reamin skeptical and see what's gonna happen.
I will reserve judgment for the final product, but the facts in front of me on the store page give a big "Outlook not so good." as the Magic 8-Ball is known to have said. a preorder pricing scheme like that doesn't stay like that for very long after release if the game ends up being a true flop. :/
low rated
Pre-ordering = cancer.

FCK PRE-ORDERS.

Why? If the game takes place in a modern world, why would a modern world political climate bother you so much?
Let me rub my crystal ball here and see what it says.... yes... yes it's becoming clear....

It says, that 1 week before release, it will become an Epic Store exclusive.
