Is this a remake of a remake ?

I love Myst and the other games in the franchise, but did we really need another (fourth or fifth?) version of Myst?

DD & Ji Ji: Is this a remake of a remake ?
No, it's a remake of a remaster of a remaster of a remaster, or something like this.

And Cyan Worlds once again shows little respect for GOG customers by omitting the Galaxy achievements.
Nice! Never got to play it back then. I remember it as being THE epic game that was not only ambitious, but also a showcase for the insane capacity of the CD-ROM! And now, it is transfered to the next evolutionary step in gaming: Virtual Reality.
Anyone knows if it's as insanely difficult as I heard?

In terms of visuals, not really no. In terms of accessibility, this is actually the first version of Myst to have subtitles. I might buy it for that reason but only at 90% off current price as no matter how much effort went into it, I'm not paying anywhere near full price for the 5th attempt at making a game I've bought twice before...

I remember being absolutely stumped only one or two times, but with hints from my older brother I played through it to completion when I was about 10 years old.

This was back in the day when the internet was young so you couldn't just go to a site like GameFAQs to find a walkthrough. My household didn't even have the internet yet. But if you take copious notes on the things you discover, you should have no problem finishing it, even if you do need an occasional hint.

They probably didn't bother with key rebinds anyway... :P

I finished without help decades ago but I was young and more patient! I'm just lazy now... :)

From the store page:

"Q: I bought Myst when it first came out in 1993. Can I get a free upgrade to this new version?
A: Thank you for your support over the years! We are not giving out free upgrades to previous purchasers of the original Myst. We put a lot of effort into making this new version of Myst and would appreciate your financial support again!"

I bought the game twice on CD (I gave the first copy to a friend), but never had time to play it. Fast forward 20 years and I then bought it twice on GOG ("Myst Masterpiece Edition" and then "realMyst: Masterpiece Edition"), and I STILL haven't gotten around to playing it. I also bought the other five games in the series on CD/DVD and then again on GOG, but haven't played any of them yet, either.

I can't say I'm in any rush to buy Myst a fifth time, especially when the developer clearly does not value customer loyalty or support in any way. You don't need to give a free upgrade to those who purchased the game 28 years ago, but some sort of acknowledgement of customers' ongoing support through the years (other than saying "Thanks") would be nice. Without that ongoing support from those customers, the developer would have gone out of business a long time ago.

I might pick it up with a hefty 80% off discount in a few years time, but as mentioned previously, if the keyboard controls + tech support 'attitude' are a repeat of Obduction, it'll remain on the shelf...

I like how they integrated that loop element, where the MC is seemingly caught in a universe where the release of Myst repeats over and over again.
So, the main sellingpoint of this version of Myst on the other store is that it has full VR support, which is actually a very good experience. why is this not mentioned here? Without it is really just realMyst.

edit- I see it is on the game page... but not here in the news thread. good going gOg PR people.

Cyan are con artists and has always been, avoid their games atleast the newer ones at any cost.

I appreciate the Mac version, but I wonder a bit why it requires an OS version that was released literally two or three weeks ago. In any case, I played the original, and later I played RealMyst, so while it's a classic I'm not sure I need to play it again. Maybe someday. I would rather have seen a remake of Riven.

It seems odd to have heard that; it's fairly tame as far as these kind of games go. The sequel, Riven, is quite a bit harder, and so is Myst IV for that matter. I finished them all without guides, aside from Myst V, which I wasn't too fond of and lost the motivation to continue about halfway through.
