babark: Surely the really bad quality of their grimdark movies full of grit and drama and blood had something to do with it? :D
Man of Steel was flawed but still good, and I consider the longer, original cut of Batman v Superman to be a GREAT movie. I think the hate for both is way overblown.

Suicide Squad is trash though, and Justice League was ruined by studio meddling and tragedy.

Breja: I know that too. And honestly, I'm more than a little worried about it. Johnson might look righ for the role, but I can't really imagine him playing a villain, especially a villain like that. Black Adam is supposed to be absolutely ruthless and god-level all-you-mortals-are-ants-to-me arrogant and aloof. I just don't see Dwayne Johnson pulling that off. I hope I'm wrong.

tinyE: He played a villain in Doom. Say what you want about the movie as a whole, I thought he was pretty good. AND 99% of his wrestling career was as a villain.
I haven't seen Doom, and I know precisely nothing about wrestling, other than that it's not exatly a testament to anyone's acting skills :P

I guess I'll have to check out Doom now. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong, I want those movies to do well and do justice to the characters.

I think Man of Steel is absolutely fantastic. One of my favourite superhero movies ever. And yeah, BvS extended cut is really damn good, and I think even the theatrical cut is, while flawed, still fine. I even think Justice League, despite the meddling, reshoots and everything is still an ok superhero flick and I enjoyed it. I've seen way worse get praised to high heaven.

Hell, I even think Suicide Squad, while by far the worst of the bunch, is not a total waste. I liked Deadshot, Waller and Harley and it was fun to see them in live action. Some of the action was really good... it's a dumb, but watchable popcorn flick, with a really bad first 20 minutes and a terribly miscast Joker.

Now, if you want to see the "grimdark DC" gone truly horribly wrong, check out the Teen Titans live action series.

If you want a good, dark DC film; watch Under the Red Hood. It's one of my favourites. Bruce Timm's Batman vs Superman is far and away better than Snyder's film.

Suicide Squad was a terrible film, but I still enjoyed it.

There's a running joke I have with a friend about the amount of horses there are in Batman vs Superman. Does the original cut have more? If so, I'll have to watch it.
Looks alright, not holding my breathe though. DC films have been major hit and/or misses so far. MARTHA!!!!
Eh, I've never been a fan of the "Captain Marvel acts like a little boy in an adult body" angle. He's supposed to be a main eventer and DC always books him like a midcarder. At least they're not doing the Harry Potter rip-off Cap they'd been doing in the recent comics...

I don't think I will ever understand the appeal of the recent crop of superhero films.
That the Captain Marvel movie I am looking for :D

But to be honest I also plan to visit the other Captain Marvel movie too.

Crosmando: I don't think I will ever understand the appeal of the recent crop of superhero films.
There's a few reasons.

- comic book nerds like seeing their favourite heroes and villains on the big screen

- technology is at a point where a super hero's world, and powers can be more accurately portrayed. Infinity War probably wasn't possible to make in the 80s or 90s.

- A studio sees another super hero movie make a massive profit, so they get good writers and directors to make similar films, as well as put serious budgets behind the movies

I apologize for any mistakes I made. It's late at night, and my tranquilizers are kicking in.

Shit. It looks like they're trying to remake Kick-Ass, but not as dark.

Well he was originally from Fawcett Comics (which DC attempted to sue over Captain Marvel claiming he was just a copy of Superman but failed) so I'm not surprised DC would treat him like a mid-carder in favour of there more original characters.

They didn't exactly fail. The lawsuit was still going, wiht some pretty hard evidence of entire pages plagiarised from Superman if I recall correctly, and ultimately when the first wave of superhero comics popularity subsided and many series were discontinued continuing go fight with DC over this simply wasn't worth it for Fawcett in the face of falling sales, so they discontinued the original Captain Marvel series and lawsuit dropped.

Anyway, I think it's a better approach to sort of start smaller, instead of trying to make him an immediate A-list hero. This way they have somewhere to take him in the sequels, there's room for both the character and the stakes to grow.

Oh, I know. I'm just grousing but I'm totally not the guy these movies are made for. I'm a weirdo who still likes to read 1940s comics :)

Breja: It's Captain Marvel, damn it!

I will never get over the fact we're finally getting a Captain Marvel movie, but they have to call him "Shazam". But other than that, I think it looks good. I wish they'd lean more into the corny, boyscout side of Capt... Shazam, but then again this is about a contemporary kid getting superpowers, the golden age mentality would maybe feel odd and a bit out of place. But it looks good. The guy playing Captain Shazam seems to be pretty good, and Billy Batson seems to strike a good balance between having some depth and character but not being a jerk. I wish we'd seen more of Strong's Sivana, but I guess that will come in time.

I hope for a lot here. I hope it's fun, does justice to the character and does well enough to have sequels. I want to see him fight Black Adam. I want to see him meet Superman and maybe the rest of the League.
And here I was pissed because this isn't Sinbad as a genie.
