BreOl72: Purchased games don't get removed from our accounts.
But in general I agree: always download your games.
True, except updates to a game can change things. And that can happen regardless of any Enhanced Editions.

Of course, if one has been doing the right thing and downloading (backup & archive) the Offline Installers very soon after purchasing, then one should have few worries.
The Enhanced editions are listed as separate gog games, but it's safer to make backups of the originals right now.
So on gog and steam something interesting has developed

if you purchase the enhanced edition of a game you get the original for free.
if you purchase the original you get the enhanced for free.

this is of course in addition to the fact that you bought the games originally on gog (and steam) you get them for free already, so thats neat.

for easy linking I am just putting the trilogy bundle here you can go to the indvidual pages yourself:

https://www.gog.com/en/game/stalker_legends_of_the_zone_trilogy

https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/53693/STALKER__Legends_of_the_Zone_Trilogy/

Shmacky-McNuts: I read that. Now think for a moment how they decided all player created content was claimed by GSC. Just because they felt like writing it that way in their tos. If you want to trust them, thats your decision. Given the name change, I certainly wouldnt trust those people to not ruin the originals in some other ways. When they have no respect at all for the fans that kept the games alive, even when those devs didnt do anything to support their own work.
You read that and you still created that thread, because they changed Chernobyl to Chornobyl. Look, you don't have to like GSC, but please stick to less fear-mongering next time.

Edit: Well, I can see why they decided to keep the originals. The remasters are so bad apparently, they would be cooked alive on Steam if they removed them.

Im skeptical of the staff in any company, that provide evidence of deception on their own behalf. Then treat the fans that kept the series alive, with disrespect.

Their behavior is poor at best, since they came back. Warning people to get their backups, is not fear mongering, nor alarmest. Its good practice, especially with a major change taking place.

Id hope more people tell us about a big change to a game series. As I also mentioned, if nothing changes...fine.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's what a fear-mongerer would say.

Says the one trolling me. Stop. Seriously.
Feels weird.
Why?

The new versions are heavily overpriced for subpar quality with weird decisions on the technical side, and we can't buy the old versions anymore... hm.. I don't know about this. This move from GSC is quite sad actually.

Correction: We actually can still buy the original versions... but they're not really the original versions because they're the Preservation Program versions... *sigh*

Yes, the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. are available for purchase, and according to gogdb they have the same base price ($19.99) as so called Enhanced Editions.

Clear Sky is still untouched by Preservation Program as far as I can tell. So I wonder if versions 1.0006 and 1.6.02 respectively for Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat are available for downloads at least via GOG Galaxy client.

I'm not really interested in new Enhanced Editions since there are enough of ingame changes that I don't like.
I just treat them as separate games entirely. The original release for older PCs and this new one for modern PC rigs.

CoP and CS can be installed from the client, but if you move their installation folders, you can't import them back anymore.

There is a difference between scepticism and cynicism.

Fuck their TOS
I'm on GOG, because all I need is possession & full control of game installation.
GOG gives me that for Single Player Games & my total ban on all "In-Game Cash Shops"
That means I gave up playing multiplayer games over two decades ago.

DRM free is great, but not the reason I use GOG, I'd be fine with offline installers with offline DRM, to get rid of ANY store client.
I don't use Galaxy either, but I knew it was vital to GOG's survival, the moment the coonsoles forced AAA Publishers to use the store client instead of the game provided network client, while Steam had the feature for Valve mutiplayer games, GOG had nothing.
This was the era when the latest C-Suite trend was each game must have all the modes, so GOG stopped getting new games.

The "Good Old Games" era when only GOG & Pirates provided digital downloads of PC games that never released on Steam.
That era ended in 2012 when Steam dropped their Curated AAA new games policy & let any old game get added as well (Greenlight Era).

These factors meant GOG lost their "Good Old Games" monopoly & needed a store client ASAP to survive beyond Witcher 3.
Launching Galaxy in 2015, cemented CDPR's reputation & though old timers like me will never use Galaxy, we wouldn't still be on GOG without it existing.

Bonus Galaxy free GOG feature, no crappy store client based "Achievements""
I don't need a store to play my games & GOG has a website Where I go to buy those games.
