Never say never.

Some other things, this time directed toward web developers:
* Never use JavaScript when a simple static page will suffice.
* Never solely use JavaScript to enforce that input sent to a server is valid. (Some users might disable JavaScript, some browsers might have buggy JavaScript implementations, and a hacker can bypass client side checks easily.)
* Never use the User Agent string to restrict what programs can access the site. (I have seen lynx blocked this way way too often.) In fact, the only good use for the string, IMO, is to work around a bug in a specific browser version; unknown browsers should be assumed to not be buggy. (The fact that Facebook does this doesn't make it good; in fact, that's one reason I don't have a Facebook account (but not the only one).)
* If you do use JavaScript, never use excess resources on the client side; this is an issue that is far too common. (Why does a site like Twitter use up so much RAM on the client side?)
* Never include anything that contains animation or audio that auto-plays. (The fact that the well-known site YouTube does this is not an excuse.)

Never press the "-" button on posts that aren't actually bad in some way.

(The only exception that I would make is if the user is harassing me in some way (or a similarly serious issue), but there is only one case where I've had that happen on this site.)

You do realize I said that tongue-in-cheek ... a kind of joke ... LOL.

And I try to never assume anything, which is why I also said.

Everything is offensive to someone.

But being serious for a moment, just because someone finds or says they find something offensive, doesn't make it so, some people have an agenda and some are too precious. At the end of the day, it should be about logic and reason, that take into account reasonable sensitivities.

Humor is a fundamental and very important aspect of life, and one should always try and find the humor in every situation.

^ Never forget to (somewhere in your post) rember to include "never" followed by, well... you get my point. Otherwise the thread is off-topic. Thank you all and have fun.

Steam forums are a mess in that regard.....over here we can post links to other stores and GOG is okay with it....over there post ONE link to a GOG/other store sales page/etc and some mods throw a hissy fit.

Never drink and drive, but it IS ok to sometimes drink and drive some people crazy. :D

Never explore too much too fast in Planescape Torment.

Also never set up a church to the lady in the same game...it doesn't end well. o.0

(Well, unless you like mazes of doom, that is.....then it's all fine and good)

Never assume, as you only end up making an ASS out of U and ME...

Oh!, and never put all your eggs in one basket, because it's always wise to have an alternative or back-up plan should things change or go wrong.

Never link to any of the following:
* A page that redirects to a 404 or other error, or that redirects somewhere not useful (like the main page of the site)
* A page that requires a login without a warning (excluding from pages that already require that login, or on the login screen)
* A page that auto-plays audio without a warning
* A page that has an nytimes-style paywall without a warning (as such a link, if clicked accidentally could waste one of ths user's limited free articles)
* A page that has triggering content without providing a warning (this includes sites that could trigger epileptic seizures due to flashing)
* A page that has spoilers without a warning (for those who are spoiler-sensitive; I'm not spoiler-sensitive, but some people are)
* A page that violates the Terms of Service of the website you're posting it on (in particular, if a page would violate GOG's rules, it's note a good idea to post a link to it here)
* A potentially controversial page on a wiki (including, but not limited to, Wikipedia), unless you use a permanent link to a particular version
* A page that, if accessed, will mess up (or hack) the visitor's computer

Never deny the possibility that dtgreene may be asked by staff here to amend the Forum Regulations or assist in a detailed Terms of Service.

Or just Never click on a link without checking what said link links to first. :)
