I'm very fond of very high vocals though.
(Case in point: If I were to play that part on clarinet (appropriately transposed, of course), I wouldn't even think about the range, but on bassoon I do, and it's high enough that I need a harder 1st bassoon read to play it, as it won't come out on a softer 2nd bassoon reed.)
By the way, I do like high bassoon, and I also like low clarinet; the Bb clarinet can actually get down to (in concert pitch) the D below middle C, which is lower than most people not familiar with the instrument expect; even better, it's rather easy to play the clarinet in this range, so it can even be used in music meant for beginners.
