Cavalary: You sure it's hyperactive metabolism and not some problem with absorbing nutrients and/or turning unused energy from them to reserves?
Could be, whatever it is really sucks though.

The doctors said I was perfectly healthy, aside from a few old injuries (I was the quintessential bad boy growing up and have the scars to prove it) they were amazed that I'm in the "over the hill" category, and they ran countless tests (from thyroid function to HIV) due to how much I eat and still remin underweight.

Nothing came up, excpet a lot of bills for lab work that my insurance didn't want to cover, and I was instructed to monitor it closely and report back for inpatient care and nutrition if I lose even five pounds. So far I've been at 165 for the last six months, fairly stable, but for my height and frame I should be in the general area or 190-200 instead.

xyem: Bit of slowdown for week #5 at 22.5%, but still.. progress! Winner will be chosen from posts up to and including #190.

Didn't have popcorn this week and had a couple of treats (triple chocolate muffin and 50g of white chocolate.. both gifted to me) which could be the cause but again, speed is not that important.. only direction!

EDIT #1: The popcorn wasn't replaced with anything, it was just omitted.
A slowdown with progress is still a really good result, keep up the good work, Xyem :)

Also, I read slowdown as showdown at first and I was really confused for a second there.
Don't worry about the slight slowdown and keep on the good work! :)
When you get better, it is normal progressing more slowly.

If you aren't doing it already, the classic "30 minutes of daily walk" are fantastic for your health, generally speaking.

liamphoenix: Good luck to you.

On the positive side, trying to lose weight can be great for saving money, I spend more on food than I do on rent because I have a ridiculously hyperactive metabolism and end up looking skeletal if I have a "healthy" amount of food.

I'm kinda jealous of people who have to work to keep their weight down, eating 5-6k calories per day just to maintain a weight that's 20# under where it should be is a pain, and really flippin' expensive.

I'm sitting here, typing this, with a 40 oz jar of peanut butter with molasses and dark chocolate chunks mixed into it eating it by the spoonful because nut butters are one of the few things that I can get a TON of calories from without stuffing myself beyond capacity.
Michael Phelps dat you bro? You must be an athlete or something, 5-6k calories? Where do you burn this stuff?

Well, I do commute by foot, so I walk enough every year to cross the country the long way. Still, it's only walking and some moderate lifting and carrying (I hike ultralight, so even when I do that I'm only carrying about 20#) so I wouldn't think it would burn THAT much.
I have just realized I have never counted any calories ever, not even "for fun", and my mind like counting things and putting them on a list or something. xD

babark: Good luck!
You've been selected as the week #5 winner! Send me a message about what you want to do with your prize. Remember, it never expires!
Xyem, I'm impressed with your commitment to this endeavor, and have to tell you, you've helped motivate my wife and me. We've started a regimen of regular exercise (nothing overly intense, just making sure we get at least 10,000 steps per day, part of which must be a walk outside) and have cut back on the food intake (mostly the ''this stuff tastes great, but it's full of empty calories" kind) as well as reducing the alcohol intake. Only into week two, but it's going well and there is a reduction in the amount of blubber I'm sporting. :)

Yes. I am walking a bit more nowadays too. Avoiding other modes of transport when possible.
But the main thing which I often fail at is resisting unhealthy food for a long time. Still I am trying to snack on fruits or healthier alternative snacks.

I find it difficult as well - especially since my coworkers insist on bringing it in to work to share. But I'm doing far better. I've found it's far more effective to reduce a bit and do so more and more over time than try to just stop altogether.

It's very inspiring to see the constant and consistent weekly loss.
Congrats!

And thanks!
Keep up the good work!

From this thread, I decided to get an exercise bike. I'm riding most days at least 30 minutes and about half of days 90 minutes. It's knocking weight off me fast. And I thought I had plateaued.

Keep it up!
With the work I have to do now, I'm passing most of my day on a chair. Before I had a run and a weight lifting session every day, now I have to skip them often.
I'm seeing a bit of fat appearing down here. Sad. :(
