instead of editing out offensive material, give out a free pair of impossibly dark sunglasses and ear muffs.
that way, those who don't wish to be sheltered, can watch/do whatever it is these over sensitive people, do not wish to do.
problem solved!!!
haha, ok, not really, but wouldn't it be a weird world where this was considered an acceptable answer?
Hmm.... choice, huh? Quite a weird world indeed.
Uhmm....kill those who enforce censorship? That or put them all on an island where they can censor the shit out of everything.
Allow password protected censhorship settings. You can either turn them off, turn them on or password protect them so your children cannot view the content (if you feel like it's inappropriate).

ESRB makes a big stinky poo doo on you.
In Soviet Russia, DRM is you.
Meh, DRM shouldn't even exist.

Funny that, hey?
If we give the masses choice, the world will implode in a cataclysmic event that will tear a whole in space-time.
Or they could *shock* *horror* just not play these games / let their kids play them.

Parents are stupid to buy these games for us kids, they should pay more attention. =)

Parental stupidity is at the core of so many problems.

Let us not forget the unscrupulous sales person who sells said games to kids. But, who knows what drives them to do so. Managerial pressure?

That's not such a problem here. Usually sales people are pretty damn cautious about that and even card people who are practically senior citizens. But then that's mostly because their jobs are on the line if they don't.
Well its illegal here as well but the combination of a low chance of getting caught plus the probable backlash from turning away sales means that I've never seen anyone carded.

"Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive Sunglasses have been specially designed to help people develop a relaxed attitude to danger. At the first hint of trouble, they turn totally black and thus prevent you from seeing anything that might alarm you."
Yeah thats pretty much what is needed. That or some maturity and common sense. Sadly until the cosmological constant changes to something OTHER than mindless stupidity it won't happen.
What's sparked this though? You get something with cut content?

Just been readin' about the L4D2 demo fiasco, apparently the L4D2 demo is more censorized than L4D1 is, without censorship.
Which, L4D1 as you may recall, isn't censored at all in Australia, might be in Germany though.
Anyway, I actually wish I had access to some of these versions, as I think it'd be hilarious.
the censored version of L4D2 has no riot cops, so if a person who has a censored copy joins a server, no riot cops will spawn. otherwise the rest of the censorship is client side.
I think it'd just be fun to join an American server with an Australian copy and grief people that way.
But I also think it'd be interesting to see the differences for myself.
For example, the German version of Team Fortress 2, has robot parts instead of gore. That just sounds cool to me, and I'd like to have that, but unfortunately they don't sell the German version in Amerika.
Also, word is that D2D will be releasing the AO version of Manhunt 2 sometime soon.

Yeah kotaku had a list of things that were cut, all but one of which was in L4D1 and the one excluded one was a unit of some sort. I was going to point to my comment on that story but its not been approved yet so I'll C&P
"<quoting>based on all these inconsistencies in their rulings. The OFLC does not seem to have a set series of rules for assessing games.</quoting>”
PING! We have a winner!
Thats the problem with the classification process, there’s no standardised guidelines so we can’t get uniform decisions. Each recommendation seems to be entirely at the whim of the individuals on the board reviewing that particular title so you have a coin flip. Heads = “Woah, awesome decapitation!”. Tails = “EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111″
The 18+ rating would solve a lot of this but we have a single man with FAR too much power because of his unique position and the rules requiring a unanimous vote to add a rating. This single man is well aware of said power and is cynically using this to enforce his own personal beliefs on the entire country in spite of the fact that in doing so he is actively damaging the cause he supports.
Personally I’d have rated Gears Of War 2 at 18+ since the graphics are pretty realistic and you can chainsaw people in half but its a huge title worth a bucketload of money and so the OFLC let it slide in at an MA15+ (again possibly because of the ‘awesome decapitation’ oflc reviewers) thus letting “impressionable 15 year old Timmy ‘Psycho’ Smith” get his hands on it and thus initiating the destruction of civilisation as we know it.
Pretty damn good chance he’d have been carded and refused if the game was rated at 18+ but no… we can’t have that can we? Thanks for destroying society mr atkinson!"
