Just finished AC2: HOLY CRAP!!!

I sort of liked the first one (had good concepts, but was really poorly executed), and the DRM on 2 kind of made me avoid it. But after the recent sale, and my swallowing my pride to enjoy Conviction (good game. Not an SC, but good game), I gave AC2 a shot.

Oh my god is that thing awesome and mind-boinkering good. The last pre-credits comment pretty much sums up the entire plot. All the fun of a Metal Gear Solid-esque plot but only 10% of the weird creepiness (I attribute it to a distinct lack of japanesiness).

Anywho, considering that I spent a grand total of maybe 25 bucks on the series thus far, I am very tempted to buy Brotherhood for the 35 Amazon is asking for. Wiki says release on PC in Q1 2011, but since I have a pretty PS3 sitting beneath my TV right now...

So, is there anything I should be concerned about with buying it for the PC? AC2 didn't seem to look for any AC1 savedata (and I can always "obtain" some anyway), but I do know that developers kind of can't code worth a damn on Cell (I can't either :p) since Armored Core 4 apparently has slowdown on the PS3 version.

Anything like that with this game? Or am I good with just getting the PS3 version to continue the adventures of Desmond (the guy who manfiests scars while listening to Kristen Bell) and the annoying prick that is so totally not as cool as Altair was?
AC:Brotherhood is way better than AC2. It's the best AC so far.

The PS3 version is, unlike the PS3 version of AC2, actually worked on to make it properly compatible with the console, whereas AC2 was a shoddy port. As such, the PS3 version of Brotherhood is as good as any other version.

While I can't speak for the PS3 version of Brotherhood, it continues the trend of "Holy shit this plot and these characters are awesome".

Also, Ezio becomes less of a prick, and also, I don't think you remember what a prick Altair was. He treated all other assassins like they were worms that weren't even fit to lick his boots, and constantly complained. Ezio, in contrast, fights for the people of Europe, and is practically like a deadlier Robin Hood.
Sweet. If the PS3 version has no issues, an ordering I shall go. Thanks.

And I remember what a prick Altair was. But he at least had style. He was an assassin. Ezio is just a psychopath with an arsenal of weapons who attacks head-on at almost every opportunity. Whereas Altair would stealth in, and then engage in a sword battle with twenty Templar.
Which is probably why AC2 was so much more fun than AC1 :p

On a sidenote: Is it just me or are the Templar WAY better at stealth and enacting social change? :p

You can play Ezio as a much more stealth-like character in Brotherhood. One of the interesting new additions is challenges for each specific mission, like remain undetected or don't lose more than 5 blocks of health. It makes you want to go back and replay the mission to get the 100% (which isn't too much of a problem, as all of the missions are awesome).

Also, collecting the armor of Romulus (like you collected the armor of Altair) is very fun, because it showcases just how awesome the platforming in the series is.

Good to know, apart from some frustrations with the camera set up, I found collecting the armor of Altair to be one of the more fun aspects of AC2.

I guess I'll be getting it then.

Personally, I like AC, it just got tedious after a while, and I wasn't particularly drawn to finish it, even though I installed it again a while back, after completing AC2. From what I gather AC: Brotherhood has more replay value than the other two did.

Plus it has exclusive dlc missions (which are free)

What was wrong with the PS3 version of AC2? I played the crap out of that game to the extent of getting the platinum trophy and never noticed a problem

Brotherhood is far better, the story advances nicely, there's more hookers, the multiplayer is actually pretty awesome and you finally get to do something with desmond that isn't just wander around a few rooms

The full synch challenges are mostly a fun challenges but there's a few that are bloody annoying. I also find it annoying that the approach to the vatican is always a restricted area but the swimming detour to get around it is still vastly preferrable to the parts in AC1 when you had to walk suspiciously slowly whenever you were in sight of a guard in case he thought "that guy is walking confidently, better kill him to be on the safe side" (its like everyone driving 20ks slower when they can see a cop car)

At least initially it had frame rate and screen tearing issues, as well as being more crash-prone on the PS3 than other systems. It went as far as Ubisoft basically admitting that the PS3 version of AC2 was a fairly fast and direct port of the 360 version, with little to no work on polishing the game for a different platform.

Some issues may have been ironed out in patches since release though, I haven't really been paying attention.

Yeah, I didn't have any problems with AC2 on PS3, either.

As for the sync challenges, the ones that are a real bitch are the Romulus Armor missions. Complete in 8 minutes? You've got to be kidding me!

And every minute I think more about it, I realize how fucked up AC1 really was. You had to hold down the "slow" button every time you rode near a guard, even though everyone else riding a horse would be riding full-speed.

Oh, and, you know what? I actually own AC2 for PS3, retail, never played it. It's just been lying in what I like to refer to as The Pile of Imposiveness.

I'm installing it. Like, now.

Awesome. That's the best feeling!

Yup Brotherhood on the PS3 is brilliant. I've played it for a fair few hours and the only small annoyances I've seen is the way the textures load in on people and the small black lines in the minimap where it appears to be patched together.

But none of that really detracts from the game. Also can't wait for the PC version as I'll be buying it on the PC too. I love this series and have no problems with buying it on both platforms for full price. Especially as the Deluxe editions of the PC versions tend to net us (in Japan) access to DLC that was never made available to us here.

AC1 did have that "This game will be great when they finish it" feeling. Awesome concept, great crowd, climb & kill mechanics but rough around the edges and with not enough content for a world so big. Even if they'd just dumped the kingdom part & had a few more investigative missions
My only gripes with this series is that when you are doing your parkour or whatever you wish to categorize the name 'free-running' is, one tiny nudge on the analog stick and you are somewhere you don't want to be and that the combat is too easy. Seriously, you can beat the game using only a broom (Which is an achievement/trophy, killing someone with a broom.). Other than that, it's a great game. My younger brother beat it before me, but that's because I actually do stuff besides play through the story only. Oh, and use 2 handed weapons. It never gets old after throwing a bastard sword/battle axe into someones head or swinging a sword in a 180 and killing 3 guys.
