There's a lot of grey stuff - though there's also some over the top stuff too.

And yeah there are various factions you can join and rise through,

Small update:
Hey guys,

We're 3 days in and already we've passed $4,000!!! We'd like to thank all of you guys for your support and for helping to get the word out about Antharion, we couldn't have gotten this far without your help. We'd also like to give a BIG THANKS to RPG Codex and RPGWatch for featuring us on their sites and helping to get our Kickstarter campaign off the ground.

Also, your feedback is invaluable in helping us make a better Antharion. Everyone of your suggestions is being take under consideration, so please keep the feedback coming!

The Antharion Team
Still haven't pledged, but keeping a close eye on this.

I did my duty.
As I said in the other (troll?) thread:

making a lot of claims...

By showing basically a isometric fighting game and comparing it with

"The Elder Scrolls, Baldur’s Gate, and Ultima into a single player old-school RPG experience. We wanted to combine an immense open-ended living-breathing world where the player is free to go anywhere and do anything"

I'm not sure, it looks like the cartoonish (and a bit better looking) little brother of a Spiderweb game. What they show do not promise much depth. Magic system is a bit generic. Fighting seems to favour melee

And it annoyed me in the first seconds of the video where the mage is casting a fireball spell out in darkness and hits a mob.... luck?

It might be good, but I do not trust these people to deliver. Need to see a finished product or two, or some sort of track record, before I give them money.

And now it is also a focus on iPad, also not a good sign.
Thanks so much for your support guys! We've been really amazed at the overwhelmingly positive responses we've been getting.

Didn't mean to mislead anybody with the Elder Scrolls/Ultima references ...all we were trying to do was pinpoint very specific sources of inspiration for the project. For example, the design for Antharion's world was influenced quite heavily by the Elder Scrolls games - in terms of scope and freedom.

Also we probably made the mistake of only mentioning the parts of our game that are already in place and 100% working (that's my fault, I personally like seeing tangible working things on KS). We're currently working out plans for crafting, alchemy, fighting abilities in addition to a number of other subsystems and will be mentioning several of these in the upcoming days via Kickstarter updates.

Sounds good. I'm looking forward to those updates. :)

Any chance of a short demo before the end of the KS?
So as you might be aware, the successfully funded video game Kickstarter Haunts is undergoing a crisis; they ran out of money, they don't have programmers, what they have of the game is a buggy mess, and it is not clear how it will all turn out.

You have no previous game-making experience, and are asking for even less money than Haunts was; realistically, you're a risk. Can you give us an idea of how you're planning to make this game on a budget of $15,000? Where will the money go?
The game looks interesting, I'm reminded of the Avernum series from how the video plays out. I am kinda worried that there's a lack of a gender option and all the stuff shown doesn't have a female PC and would be really surprised not to see an option there.
I thought the "whole group moving as one" looked kinda odd. :-)

I absolutely understand all of your concerns,

I have over ten years experience building more or less these types of games as a hobbiest/enthusiast but no commercial experience (something that could be considered more of an asset than a liability).

I'm the creator/programmer and have been working full-time for the last year building Antharion from scratch while living off of a modest savings - at this point I'm 100% personally invested in the project and 15k will absolutely ensure that any future potential overhead is covered.

Antharion is not a dream or an idea - it's very far along compared to most KS projects and, aside from a few remaining subsystems, all of the game's core systems are fully functional and a sizable chunk of the world has already been constructed. Also, we're definitely adding in gender choices for all of the characters so don't worry.

I'd be more than happy to answer any other questions/concerns.

Thanks again for you interest in the project!

I can appreciate that, but what would really boost my confidence in your project is a formal update on your Kickstarter page roughly itemizing your anticipated expenses (and as I mentioned before, what will happen if you do go over budget). You must know how you came up with $15,000 - making that information public will help demonstrate that you've done the math on what needs to happen for the project to reach release. Otherwise, $15k just feels like a magic number.

Your game pitch is solid, you just have to show how you plan to reach the finish line.

Thanks Mentalepsy, that's probably very smart advice - I'll draw up plans to do some sort of detailed itemization.
I would agree with Mentalepsy too. That will really give potential and actual backers some faith.
Seems like an interesting project. I don't have the means to support it but wish them the best of luck.
