I only ever heard the controversy, even now you don't hear much about how the actual game plays out.
Manhunt 1 is phenomenal, especailly if the PC version allows use of a headset/mic. The reason being that you could use sound to distract the enemies.
Manhunt is a fantastic game, a true lesson in survival and brutality. You will be mesmerized by the violence, but you will be immersed like no other game in the sense of "them or me". Fantastic. Get's a 9.5/10 from me. The game devolves somewhat once guns get introduced, but it's great otherwise.
