Can "we" PLEASE stop making the same old complaint threads over and over again, even though it's evident that they never reach the people they're aimed at?

No? Okay, I'll ask again next week then. ;)

I'll second this.
I view GoG reviews as netflix reviews. It would be best if you take 4/5 or 5/5 with a grain of salt. I actually google reviews of the game to see what people thought of it back then.

Razzoul: I view GoG reviews as netflix reviews.
Or all reviews on Amazon's Kindle section.
Why not get people to stop dancing too? You'll have about as much success.

As I've mentioned before: Objective reviews are best sought elsewhere. Should be common knowledge by now.

Footloose!
Kick off your Sunday Shoes!!
I have been criticized that I never give out the perfect 5 out of 5 or 10 out of 10 by friends and peers. It's a pet peeve of mine that nothing is perfect, thus no perfect scores are warranted. Even when grading myself for my boss' annual review of me, I am brutally honest.
Anyone here ever read the GameSpot reviews? The descriptions are actually pretty good but AoE got a 6.8 out of 10. I don't think so. AoE goes to 11!
Dungeon Keeper 2 is a 5-star game, and if you disagree, I'm gonna kick you in the nuts !
My idea was to compare pairs of similar games and saying which is better or worse for different categories (3-5 categories). Evaluating all gathered data would give more meaningful ratings.

Alternatively we could just redistribute the ratings so that 10% best scored games get 5 stars, 10% worst get 1 star and the rest is evenly distributed in between.
Though I remember a lot more...

:-P
User-based rating systems are never to be trusted anyway, because different people have internalized different ideas about what the scale of the ratings is. Some people take it to be linear, while other people interpret it like school grades ("anything below an 80 is utterly awful!").

GOG should do away with stars and number-based ratings entirely, and make it entirely text-based. If you truly care about ratings as a factor of purchasing a game, you would take the time to read in-depth critiques and find what their common praises and common complaints fall under; you'd make a much more educated decision.
The same thread again? So soon after the other was just this week?
Why not taking it the logical way? You know that the voting isn't a proper one....and it will never be.....so
just read the information from GOG and if you didn't know the game before check it up with different external sources, aka
real reviews stating pro and contra.
With the ongoing downrepping abuse problem(?) and this, I guess it kinda evens out in the end.
There really isn't anything that can be done about user reviews in terms of quality, the effects of nostalgia, etc. The best you can do as I think at least one other person mentioned is seek other sources in addition to any good ones you happen upon here. And there are some good ones. You just have to wade through a bunch of not so useful ones as I am sure you've noticed.

Posting here to ask about a game you don't recall but which looks interesting to you could possibly help. You may get some decent feedback that way as well as in the relevant game's forum.

Good old Google and in particular review sites that have been around a long time like Gamespot and IGN may be of some help for descriptive reviews. I think this option is mostly helpful for 90's and up, any earlier it's going to be tough I think.

Tarrker: I LOVE Dungeon Keeper 2. No joke. I have an old tower in my bedroom setup with Windows 98 just so I can play that game in particular. I would however not pretend that it is worth five stars or that it is this perfect game. The aesthetics are a clear downgrade from the first game, it's riddled with bugs (even after patching) and it has nearly zero functionality operating systems newer than Windows ME (don't even get me started on Mac).
I have Dungeon Keeper 2 on its original distribution Disc (DRM free), and it installs and runs fine in Win7 64bit with a dual core processer, using Win XP service pack 3 compatibility. It also runs fine on an old Toshiba Vista 32bit laptop with a dual core processer and generic Intel video graphics, using Win XP service pack 2 compatibility....
