jamyskis: As for 4K, well, if you can show me a set-up for under $1500 that can actually run games satisfactorily at 4K, and if you can show me an example of a game that would actually benefit from 4K on anything under a 55" TV, I'd be amazed...
There just isn't hardware for sale that run 4k games properly yet so don't really matter how much you spend.
However size don't really matter much when it comes to resolution so no need for a huge screen if your eyes are good.
I easily spot a 1080p screen on a small cellphone and I'd bet a 4k cellphone would make my eyes drool.
I'll get a neat 4k monitor for movies once there is actually content to watch in that resolution but games I won't bother with for another year or two for sure.
This probably boils down to either Gog holding the release back or Steam having an exclusive release period. Isn't WL 2 released in August as well? wouldn't it mean that's possibly being held back as well?

six-: I trust both gog and larian have good intentions but somewhere along the way things got messed up.
They are both fairly new and small time so can't expect them to get everything right.
Hopefully most of it will get sorted out this week though!
They're hardly both new. GOG's been around for about 6 years, and Larian's been around since 1996. Small teams, granted, but not new. And frankly, you don't get a bye on a fiasco like this just because you're small.

zerebrush: So, come August there should have been sufficient time for Larian to make this basically great game playable.
If this is no reason to wait ...
If the game's that bad and 'unplayable', then why release it now and create all this turmoil. Far better to wait and release all versions at the same time with more bug fixes and better stability, no? Since it's a kickstarted project there's no real hard deadline for release anyway,

shmerl: GOG is new and small? Nope, GOG aren't some amateurs and they aren't small either.
Well compare them to steam and yes they are. Few remember all the crap steam took from users so many years ago before they got things working better and now suddenly everyone is expected to run at least as well as they do.

Or Larian refusing to submit manual patches to GOG since they said the updates will be frequent and auto patching is more convenient.

EDIT:

I remember reading somewhere Larian saying the game has few bugs left and basically we're getting a D:OS v2.0 on release and yet people are reporting more problems than the early access days.

jamyskis: Because as far as online is concerned, console games - at least those on disc - are DRM-free. Sure, they've got copy protection on the disc, but the publisher then has no control over how you play that game after the fact. I have all my games for the PS1 even today that still work without a hitch, and I shudder when I think that if I had bought them from a digital distributor like Steam, I'd end up having to buy it again, and again, and again, simply because the publisher sees me as a money tree. I really don't have a problem paying a bit more for a game if it means I have a better value proposition as a result.
I agree with everything. Except:
- Nice that your PS1 still works, but since it is a closed ecosystem emulating it is much harder than windows, but i guess it has been done. and then xbox one is a pc with windows light + a custom gui :)
- gog games have **no** drm. and steam games are easily cracked... just dowload the crack fom gcw. or a complete steamrip via torrent... after all if you own the game it's legal (well here anyway)...

jamyskis: Strategy games really don't interest me all that much. The only PC exclusives that generally interest me are 2D platformers and RPGs, which is why Original Sin was the first game to spark my interest in ages.
ahh here we have the main differentiator... see, i'm only interested in rpg/strategy & occasional rally sim...

jamyskis: Also, my time is limited, and I've spent a seemingly endless amount of time trying to fix stuff on my PC, time which I no longer wish to waste.
true, but since windows 7 + gog i haven't had to do that... my time is very limited too, yet i seem to churn easily through 20 games a year... so not really playing any game for a long time....

Today it's quite hard. But even today i actually do, Supreme Commander / Planetary Annihilation being two games i run at 4K on a box for $950. Plus $400 for that seiki 39" 4K screen. True at 30 fps it's not for action games but for strategy games its perfect. It's mainly about immersion so i sit about 40cm in front of it... Now i'm waiting for that >80" 4K tv for less than $2000 :)

No, Wasteland 2 will be released in August, because it needs to be released in August. The team set itself a three month end-of-development plan and they are sticking to it. Yesterday's backer update once again confirmed this and it even mentioned getting the physical release ready:

"At this stage in production we are thinking about practical tasks such as getting a gold master version so we can start printing discs. We're currently aiming to have that done in late July, but that doesn't mean we wrap up the project. Some people will stay on (as others move fully to Torment) and continue working on the game until its release to provide a day one patch, and we fully plan on significant post-release support."

GOG may be slow in getting updates out, but even so I doubt a Day 1 patch for Wasteland 2 will be a reason to delay a Day 1 release on GOG.

Nevertheless, considering the current debacle it would probably be wise to contact Brian Fargo/inXile and ask them directly.

sorry if repost, but it sums up things nicely.
i support GOG, nodrm, no regional prices

i don't buy games at full price, no early access/ beta games or stuff that i have to test for free for those companies
- don't have the time/money to waste on some games; and some of them are really bad, so i get only the interesting games

if they say it will be here later, they may have a good reason
News update from GOG on D:OS release

Utuzuu: When they said "FULL GOG release with GOG-Galaxy in august", could they, by any chance, have meant 'multiplayer support' in august, but the game itself could be released earlier?
Looks like that's exactly what they're going to do. Release in a couple of days without matchmaking, then patch that in when Galaxy comes along.

Yeah, just read the announcement. I got ninja'd by GOG. >:D
Found this on larians forum, so at least they claim this is gog's screwup.

"-GOG keys will be sorted out tomorrow. I would like to say 2 things about this: up to last week the entire crew at Larian thought we were going to launch with Galaxy support and the only reason you can't redeem your GOG key is that your Steam key is in use. People who didn't use their Steam key can already redeem their GOG key."
Much better. Best of all to have taken this route initially, but when all is said and done, I still prefer a company that changes course over one which is inflexibly committed whether right or wrong.

Well done GOG.
