I just bought a game that I found that I already have elsewhere, therefore I have no need to install the game. I was wondering if there was a way to change the game to a gift?

Might because I'm still half asleep but I totally read your username as catinheat.

Yes, you need to contact GOG Support and ask for it.

Make sure to provide your purchasing details (4 last digits of credit card or PayPal purchase ID), and keep in mind that the gift code will appear to have come from a GOG Support staffer.
Big Tennessee Williams fan?

What's the game? :D
Also make sure you don't download it. If it's untouched, GoG will almost certainly switch that for you. Once I accidentally forgot to hit the gift box in a trade. Bought it a second time to complete the trade. Gog was willing to switch that game for another. This being the weekend and with the big sale might take them a day or so to get back to you, but they will help.

Good point about not attempting to download any of the game related files.

No I didn't download it. I haven't downloaded any of the games I've bought from this sale yet. And the game is "The Book of Unwritten Tales".

Great, then you should be set. They'll change it to a gift no problem. They will even likely switch it to a game of the same price you paid if you request it. Granted, that might be tricky with the flash sales and such.

In my case, the game was Outlast and now that I think about it, it wasn't actually a trade. Someone held a generous giveaway, mentioned something about Outlast in the Classifieds while it was on sale, so I felt like gifting it to him, but forgot to click the darn gift box. I didn't really want a gift, so I counter proposed to get two other games that were currently on sale (Drod 1+2+3 and To the Moon) for slightly less than I had paid, and they did that for me.

My interactions with GoG's staff has been excellent to date. A couple years ago had a problem with a Paypal double-charge due in part to GogBears during a popular sale. They took care of the issue promptly.

And keep in mind if you don't hear from them for a few days it's NOT because they aren't going to do it (so don't download! ;) ) but most likely because it's the weekend. I've contacted them once or twice and they're always super fast to respond, but I'm pretty positive they're off weekends.

I'm guessing this is WHY GoG support is great... it's staffed by actual humans who work there and care, and not by a 24 hour 7 days a week call center handling "support" for 10,000 companies they don't give a damn about... sorry had to get my mini-rant in ;)

Well, even if it were downloaded, the customer could still apply for the 30-day discount, get their money back, and re-buy the game as a gift. Or get their money back period.

But yeah, it's always nicer if the game is obviously untouched.
I recently had a similar experience as well. I bought on the 17th in a whim the Commandos+Desperados Bundle (costing $6.36). But as I looked the boxes on my shelf, the more I regretted for this impulse of mine(especially considering the fact I own the Commandos Collection on HB, and the fact that Desperados 2 seems to be a bad game, according to the GOG reviews) and wished I had instead bought only Desperados (no matter the discount was "omly" 60%). I thus decided to send a message to support yesterday, initially wanting to ask for a refund. I searched, but couldn't find a way to specify I wanted a refund, and ended up checking the field change order to gift. I wrote my query and, although I tried to show I prefered a refund, I said I wasn't miffed by getting to change it to a gift order.
Actually, here's pretty much what I wrote:

[i]GOG Support
My orders, payments and downloading games
order change(from regular to gift order)
Subject:Order change(or refund) regarding Commandos+Desperados Bundle

On the 17/6, I purchased the full package of Commandos+Desperados Bundle for $6.36.However, I changed my mind regarding this purchase of mine-in particular, I decided I wanted only Desperados(the first one,as the second is rumored to be a bad game). Initially, I thought I'd request for a refund-especially as I haven't downloaded any of the games-problem is I couldn't find the way to mark my problem as being "I changed my mind and haven't downloaded anything, can I get a refund?". I thus ask to get my purchase changed from a regular to a gift one. However,if you're able to, I'd highly appreciate it if I could get a refund instead-I just sent it by this category as I couldn't find the way to mark it as a refund request and chose the closest thing possible.I'll be fine if I get the purchase changed to a gift code, per the subject and problem type chosen, but I'd rather prefer to get a refund instead. Thank you for your consideration.
P.S.The attachment is a screenshot from the purchase receipt email,
in case you need the information contained there.

I probably did something wrong, or GOG Support didn't get the pun (or they found it easier to give a gift code than a refund) but anyways I can't really complain as in less than 3 hours later the games had been removed from my collection and I received an email from support containing a gift code for the aforementioned games. Since then I'm trying to trade it for something else I want more(here), but I don't have much hope as, regarding that particular series of games, there seems to be more supply than demand-plus, it's my first time trading (I didn't exactly predict I would try to trade, as I hoped I'd get a refund) and I'm asking in addition for Zafehouse Diaries-which doesn't exactly seem to be in supply.

Oh well, sorry again that I became too chatty- the useful thing for you is that, whatever GOG support decides to do, they do it quickly and efficiently.

P.S. I now realise I should have probably written this in the "Bitch about life in general" thread- I might copy/paste it there-anyways, I'll see...

Correction - the 30-Day Money Back Guarantee applies only to irresolvable tech issues.

Oh. Indeed. Thanks for putting that right.

Weird - was that changed? I don't remember this condition being mentioned anywhere when the policy was introduced. But it's definitely possible that I'm misremembering ...

Edit: Yep, seems that I'm misremembering. Gah, I'm getting old ... BUT there is a 14-day refund policy which isn't limited to technical issues. I probably mixed those two up.

It's unclear to me if requests to change a purchase from regular to gift is restricted to the 14 days of the "Final Sale" policy, i.e. when one requests that sort of a change, it's still a final sale on both sides, so one should be able to get a gift code instead even after the two weeks span, so long as they haven't attempted to download any game related content.
I've asked support for clarification on this but haven't heard back yet.
From Terms of Use

Early exchange: you can exchange a validly purchased game for a replacement game of equal or lower value if your request is made within 14 days of the original purchase. (For games purchased during discount periods, the discounted price applies.)

Final sale
A sale is considered final either 14 days after purchase OR when you make a download attempt for a game or its bonus content. Once either of those happens, you no longer will have any return, exchange or refund options unless you have technical issues covered by paragraph “Technical issues" above.
------------------------------
I read those together to mean the 14 days is only if you have not downloaded it. But that doesn't mean GoG might not make further exceptions, they just don't necessarily have to from Terms of Use.
