What kind of porn is hard-to-find for a German? O_o
Not sure if asking is the right thing to do though...

It's more a question of "Can there ever be enough porn?"

SimonG: It's more a question of "Can there ever be enough porn?"
Ah, that explains it.
When you don't have enough space to download your games, then you do have enough porn. The solution to this? Stream the porn instead of downloading it. So your enthousiasm was for the stream part, not the hard-to-find.
See? It makes perfect sense now.

FanGOG.com: Does anyone have interesting ideas we could implement there? Or should I just give up?
To properly give justice to the name, it has to somehow promote/encourage people to visit GOG.com... Some of this may be redundant to this, some may not (I'm fairly new to being active on GOG)

1)One idea is to have a "new release giveaway". Every week, one copy of each new GOG released game would be given out. This would promote both the fansite and refer people to go to GOG and join. To get the game, obviously, one has to be registered with GOG.com.

...I don't know how possible it would be, being as I'm not financially able to support the giveaway. Perhaps GOG would be willing to give 1 copy away per release, or some generous donators would. Either way, it would give more traffic to both sites.

2) Maybe there could be a special "insiders" section, where members of FANGOG.com would be able to get the inside scoop on things... Like every week or two, one question is submitted to the GOG team, and someone answers it, connecting them "intimately" to their fanbase. There would have to be rules and regulations to the questions, of course.

Or maybe it'd be just an interview with GOG team members- what brought them to GOG, what they love about it, what game inspired them to be in the "gaming" business, fav new release, game they'd love to see on GOG but there's no released developement on getting it there, etc

3) Special merch/member items. One of my favorite bands (Demon Hunter) has a special site that you can join that gives you inside scoops on releases, first listen to new songs, video interviews, exclusive merchandise, etc. Their site is run by the band but costs money to join (cause you a welcome package w/ a shirt, stickers, patch, etc, and that's how bands make money). With that, I don't see FANGOG being able to follow in the paid format, but a watered down free variation might be worth considering.

(FYI, the exclusive Demon Hunter fansite is: www.blessedresistance.com)

4) Advertise, advertise, advertise... Advertise GOG, that is. Be sure to have permission to direct link to GOG's promotions, sites, etc. Have banners, links, etc to things here on GOG. One of the biggest things of a fansite is to have a lot of references and ways to get to the fansite's focus (in this case, GOG.com). Have lots of contests, fun giveaways, etc that people would go out and post on other websites/forums. That will both build traffic on FANGOG and GOG.

5) Moderators- if there's any type of social media, ie: forums, chatroom, place for opinions, etc... be sure to moderators that control/monitor the media. This will be sure to have it positive and with the right focus. I know a previous post suggested that it's wanted to shy away from/discourage social media... though realize, a fansite's premise IS social- it's for a group to show it's love for something. If no social outlets are on there, then it will simply be an information page.

6) Game reviews- Perhaps every new release, one of the moderators/administrators of the site can do a video with their first impressions of the new game. Perhaps they love it, perhaps it would appeal to a certain group of people, etc... but always done in a positive light to try and show who it's aimed at, who would love it, and why EVERYONE SHOULD BE GOING TO GOG.COM FOR GAMES!!! :)

There are just a few ideas I had that I wanted to share. Maybe it'll spark something, or maybe it'll just make everything be "not worth the time and effort". :)

Gazoinks: Well, Xyem was talking earlier about setting up a secure trading site for GOG games. Perhaps that could be done with this domain?
avatar
FanGOG.com: That could be interesting, but is it possible to give games you already own?
I believe it was mainly for code trading. The idea was that it'd link to your GOG profile so you could avoid scamming by being able to see information about your partner while trading.
One thing I'd REALLY like is an online place to keep savegames. Have it connect to your account (or maybe you can just select which games you have) then have a nice one-click thing to upload or download savegame files to the proper location for each owned game.

This would be SO wonderful for people who have to play when they can on different computers, and they wouldn't have to worry about savegames :)

FanGOG.com: Still, I don't get the second part. Maybe I lack knowledge about the blue man group...
Nah, nothing to worry, it's more an insider joke. Because the gog staff post in a blue colour it's just a funny (more or less) description for them.

That's a great idea! The only drawback being that I can't offer games, I don't have enought money. Maybe a community funded thing could work. Do you think of something like a lottery?

What could be great would be to go in Warsaw in order to get interviews, but I doubt I could afford the trip every time :P (Even if I'd love to see Warsaw). Else, an online interview would be nice too, I suppose :)

Yeah, I don't think that a paying service would be great either. Plus, I wouldn't know where to find such material as stickers or t-shirts :P

I don't think it's a problem to do a direct link on promotions, but true, it couldn't hurt to have the permission either. I'm no graphical artist but the person who did the logo could help :)

There is no problem about moderators, I already have 3 people for that, and I don't think it would be a problem to find more people here :)

yeah, that wouldn't be too difficult to do. But for a maximum efficiency, it would be better to be able to verify a gog account (through a sign in thru gog, or something). Nevertheless, that can be done. :)

GOGswap.com is available, if that's a more suitable name for the site...
Maybe, for starter, the site can promote some games in the Wishlist of GOG.com, for example abandonware or VisualNovels.

http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/ever_17_the_out_of_infinity

Or reviews of SoundTracks from GOG.com

hmm, yeah... I'll think about that :)

GOGswap would be limited to game swapping... besides, we already have a nice logo :)

(and I like the fangog pun also)

Yeah, GOGswap is a bit limiting. It was a knee-jerk reaction to a post somewhere earlier in the thread about having a safe place to trade games. I probably should have included the quote for a bit of context ^_^

And also, if you don't mind me asking, what is the pun in fangog? Explain it to me like I'm 5 :)
How about blogposty article things? Getting people to contribute might be a bit tough but I'm sure there are enough people here with writerly skills and cool ideas that you might be able to eke stuff out of the community. Hell, I might even try my hand at it!

Not a bad idea. I volunteer myself and Jefequeso. :P
