Walking Dead makes sense of course, but I have to agree with those who recommended Tomb Raider (2013). It's a great game. Not an exact match with what you want of course but nothing is.
No I Am Alive? really? that's the closest you will get to the last of us..
Amy is a great survival horror (yes it's hated by a lot of people but I really loved it)

Elmofongo: All right I am calm I was just still envious that this game beat GTA 5 for Game of the Year. (Pulp Fiction losing to Forrest Gump, Though I like both Movies)
I personally enjoyed The Last of Us more than GTA V. If i had to choose a GOTY last year, it would certainly be The Last of Us, with Super Mario 3D World as a close second place.

I haven't played it myself, but from what i remember Amy was criticized for being buggy and extremely hard. I don't think the OP is looking for an unforgiving game.

after the patch it wasnt that hard, and the checkpoint were very close to each other (and when you quit the game you start from the point you quit like dark souls )
I really recommend I am alive, it's again the closest you will get to the last of us and it's not based on the combat which in my opinion the last of us has a lot in it.
I will second Heavy Rain. I went through it and it is cinematic and it has an interesting though somewhat convoluted story at times. However, there are themes with loss, how far will we go to get our loved ones, and etc. There are also multiple endings though the killer is always the same. However, the players actions can affect which characters are accused and what ultimately happens to certain characters.

I would second Dante's Inferno though more combat heavy. PS3 also has the better version.

XYCat: what about silent hill? There was a HD collection released recently

Neobr10: The HD remake sucks, though.
The PS3 version is patched to improve many of the issues with it. Sadly, konami has little interest in fixing the 360 version. I won't say it is perfect on PS3 but it is much improved over the initial release.
dont buy the hd collection on the xbox360, the sounds are glitched and they changed almost all the sound with cry baby sounds..., the graphics are a mess, the framerate is atrocious, it's as bad as it gets, and if that is not enough for you they change it all the voice acting...for no reason.
They even gave a full refund to everyone who bought the game...so that gives you an idea on how bad it is the game.
Try to play the ps2 ver even with an emulator, sadly the pc version are not good either, they dont work very well on win 7, silent hill 3 doesnt support most of the resolutions and it just doesnt work very well :/ silent hill 2 doesnt even start on my pc.

Too bad the technical issues were only a small part of the issues with the HD remakes as Twin Perfect showed in great detail in ~2 hours of video material. I'd probably still get them just so my GF might get a taste of the series (it's just impossible to get her to play anything on PC :P).

ASnakeNeverDies: My bad! I shall be more observant next time.
Actually I posted it right after your post so being observant wouldn't have changed anything. ^^

Licurg: Spec Ops : The Line - No zombies, but it has everything else .
Already got it from PS+. And sadly it's not her thing.

Neobr10: It's very hard to find something like The Last of Us. I think Dead Space is the closest one, but the narrative is not even close to being as good.
Yeah, the more I think about it she might actually like it, though - when I told her about it she actually showed interest. I don't feel like getting it as a birthday gift for her but considering that the game can be found dirt cheap by now (yesterday I saw three used copies for 7€ each) I might still consider getting the game for her on some occasion.

I got all SH games that were released for PC lying around. I've only tried firing up SH2 on Windows 7 so far but it actually worked pretty much perfectly. It did require some effort but the game is perfectly playable if you do a few things or apply one of the community patches. Don't know about SH3 or 4 yet.

True, I actually had trouble telling them apart before I played either and even after playing them I must still say that the scenario, atmosphere and even partially the gameplay have an astonishing amount of similarities. It was released only digitally, though? Plus I played the PS3 and PC versions and sadly I didn't like much and I think neither would my GF. I love the protagonist's voice actor, though - the same guy who voiced Kane in Kane & Lynch and the protagonist in Silent Hill: Homecoming.

BTW: Thanks to everyone for posting here. I was afraid I wouldn't get almost any replies.

Isn't that the problem with games? Many great games on the pc but it is hard to get some people to it. However, so many options open up as there are so many older options that are available that aren't to be found in the current console gaming options. Though I will say that there are some on console you can't find on pc.

I won't say it is perfect but you could also try Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut. It isn't everyone's cup of tea but that may play to your favor.

edit* was just thinking of Deadly Premonition

Ixamyakxim: ICO
Pulling out the old school PS2 game there lol
ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, both of which have been re-released on the PS3, in a format that is an actual improvement over the original. Both excellent games, with intriguing stories, that go far beyond what is generally found in this medium.

That's just the PS3, there are others most certainly on that platform, but I will leave those recommendations to others most qualified. From GOG in particular I will make two separate recommendations.

The first, is the excellent: Outcast. A phenomenal title, more action, than survival horror. It starts off innocently enough, almost cliche in it's implementation of the introduction. The world, is in grave danger, and obviously only you can save it. However soon upon undertaking this quest, you realize, the depth of this open world experience, and the nuance of its story as it unfolds... is unlike anything you expected. There are twists, and they are excellent... but only if they are as yet unlearned.

My final recommendation, is at it's core, my most favored title in the history of this medium. In many ways it is the greatest game, and story ever made. It's original, thoughtful, and humorous... even when it shouldn't be. I assume (though, that's always a bad gamble to undertake), that for many others, Star Control 2 is their favorite game as well.

Star Control 2 is in very few means, similar to The Last of Us. Different genre, older game (though the Ur-Quan Masters HD version, does the legacy of the title justice), better story, both certainly a video game.

What makes Star Control 2 fantastic, is it's story, which irrespective of franchise renown, begins in media res. Being a space opera, the stakes are high, but it is the implementation of the story that makes it poetic in nature. The game does not treat you as a child, their is no linear objective, and in fact you must seek answers to questions yet asked. And if you attempt at waiting for the game to hold your hand, you will face harsh consequences. But by doing this very thing, the game, and the audacity of that maneuver, creates an atmosphere few will ever match, and many have unsuccessfully attempted to rival.

And the greatest thing of all, the game is fun to play. It only as hard, as you ever want it to be.
