I played Botanicula at a very stressful time in my life and it always helped me destress and unwind. It's extremely relaxing, not frustrating, and the music is lovely. I've described it before as a very zen game.
DOOM = its always so relaxing.

Nightfall87: Any GTA with cheat codes on. :)
Or Saints Row The Third after having bought all "damage" and "combat" upgrades (meaning, take no damage from anything, and infinite ammo for all weapons, respectively).
Just playing Endless Space now - Quite serene (as long as you're not really aiming for a military victory, I suppose)
Bejeweled 3 - It even has a specific relaxation mode
Dustforce - It can be stressful if you're aiming for S-Ranks (especially on harder levels), but otherwise, nice music and some wonderful environments.
Splice - Beautiful piano soundtrack and fake science puzzles - I found it very frustrating at first, but once I got the hang of it...

My brother has a PS2, which I'm sure he'd be happy to lend me given he's recently got himself a souped-up gaming PC and will be getting Skyrim and Dishonoured for Christmas, which should keep him pretty busy. :P It's funny, I did a lot of looking at PS2 games for him a while back but I never saw this game! I'm loving the aesthetic, and the gameplay sounds awesome. This is one I will definitely look at getting. Thank you!

I don't know why, but drive a Porsche round Suzuka in GTR2 always relaxes me.

retsuseiba: Journey, man. You just gotta have Journey in there.

DaCostaBR: Yeah that would certainly do it as well, it's just that I noticed it had a lot of the same beats as Flower so I didn't like it quite as much. But it is still very good, I'm not denying that.

DaCostaBR: So I'm going with a ps2 game (hope this you can play!), you mentioned everyone was going for serene or violent so I'll say one that is neither: Sly 2. Both visually and in theme it's kinda like a saturday morning cartoon, so it felt very happy for me, between the humor and the camaraderie of the main characters, it maintained a light hearted tone all throughout. It seems perfect to bring your spirits up.
Sly Cooper, now that's a nostalgia trip! I got really into those games back when they first came out. (My nostalgia is more recent than most people on this site. :P)

Puzzle Quest calms me down, I think it's the music combined with the simple gameplay. Only for a limited period of time though until I think the AI starts cheating, then the rage comes.

Apart from that FPS games seem to get me in a good mood, at least single player.
Noby Noby Boy is pretty relaxing.
eufloria is really stress relieving in regards to gameplay and soundtrack. give it a shot

I'm glad I got to be helpful!

I just want to say the first one is okay but the second is the one that is really great. That's actually the first one I played and I'd recommend it as your starting point with no fear of getting lost.

I'm on the same boat as you! The first time I saw it was on a tv show about games and I still remember that childish joy when I got it : "Wow! This is just like I saw on tv!". Unfortunately I had a cousin with me at the time who insisted on playing Need For Speed, but from the moment he was gone I didn't stop playing.

ellynandroid: Well, seeing as some of my stupid objectless anxiety has decided to hover over my shoulder a while, I figured I'd make this topic! So, what games would you recommend as stress-relief?
Carmageddon. You get to run over lots of pedestrians who disappear in gory explosions and can't possibly loose. :P

Sure thing! I'll make sure to get the second one. I take it there's not that much in the way of story continuity between the two?

This game's been posted a bunch already but it's this, embarrassingly enough, that has made me consider it. :P I suck at these kind of games so much, but if I can't lose? Now I'm kinda tempted to give it a shot. Now I just have to wait til GOG presents me with a holiday offer I can't refuse.

The first is used as a setup for the second but the intro does a good job telling you all you need to know.

Awesome! Thanks for the info.
