Just curious, when you look at the GOG.com game catalog sorted by bestselling...
- What is the worst selling game you own? [EXCLUDING THE FREE GAMES AT THE BOTTOM]
- And if you have played it, what do you think about that game?
I figure this thread might be a way to highlight a massively underrated/unknown gem in the catalog.
Here's my contribution:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edna & Harvey: The Breakout - This is an unfair entry, because Daedalic just "broke out" the two Edna & Harvey games into their own separate games, and raised the prices. So now it's a "new" game with sales reset, and the new high price will ensure it will never move up the charts.
That being said, I bought the Edna & Harvey pack because I heard it had dark humor for a point and click adventure game. When I initially fired it up, I was partly disappointed in the visuals. It had a unique artstyle, but something about it screamed low-budget and inconsistent. But as I played on, I realize that the point & click puzzler actually had some meat to it.
* Harvey, the stuffed rabbit, gives commentary on any and every item in the game in addition to Edna, the main character. That makes for a lot of extra detail and dialog, if you appreciate it.
* In addition to finding objects, and then using/giving them at the right time, there are game systems where you can obtain additional abilities. So it feels like you have some progression.
* The humor is all sorts of wrong, which is awesome.
I ended up liking the game a lot more than I thought I would. Same goes for the sequel, which also rubbed me the wrong way initially.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FRACT OSC - Since E&H: The Breakout is a special case for being worst-seller, here's my 2nd contribution.
I already wrote a user review on GOG, but here's a summary. FRACT OSC is a 1st-person puzzle exploration adventure.
You're dropped off in a beautiful but desolate alien world, with no guidance. Soon, you'll explore and find things that you can interact with. With no instructions to anything, all you can do is play around, and see what happens. As you get closer and closer to solving puzzles, your environment will shift, and music starts to play. Complete it, and lights will sound, music will blare.
Everything about the game is intentionally vague, but pay attention to what you see and what you hear. Soon, the world becomes alive. Music appreciation not necessary, but will likely enhance the experience.
I loved it.
