I saw this review by scgog:

This package does the following:
1) Installs Adobe Air on your system, opening up an attack vector
2) Phones home whenever it senses an internet connection
3) Opts you into unspecified "Data Tracking" (can opt out in Options, but doesn't stop it from phoning home)
Shame on GOG for not disclosing any of this.

And this reply by larsiusprime:

There's no way for me to respond directly to scgog, so I'll just try this. Admins - if this violates a site policy, feel free to delete it!
Scgog had some legitimate concerns about our game, and here is our response to these. Feel free to discuss this with us further on the GOG forums.
1) The game does use Adobe AIR, but we just discovered a way to compile the game that does not require the player to install this dependency. If there's enough demand for it, we will gladly provide GOG with a special "AIR-less" build.
2 & 3) The game "phones home" only to send basic gameplay metrics, such as which levels people have reached, etc. It collects no personally identifying information and can be totally disabled. If you so desire, please post in the game's forum and I will provide you a full list of all the information the game is tracking.
The only other outgoing connection is to poll the auto-update server so that we can deliver patches and updated content. If this is an important enough issue for people, I will gladly add an option to let the user disable this in the future as well.
Sincerely,
Lars A. Doucet

I'm sorry if this has been hashed out before but honestly, I don't know what all of this means. What do you guys think?

We uploaded a new version since that review was posted. All of these issues should be fixed now - this was mentioned on the Defender's Quest forum.
Thanks

Normally I hate any kind of censorship, but it might be a good idea to remove that review on the grounds that it's no longer relevant.

You can just downvote it as it's no longer 'helpful'.
huh, meant to click cancel and since i hadn't typed anything thought it'd do it but misclicked post so accidentally quoted.

was about to ask how to turn all of that of including the update polling since we can decide for ourselves weather to bother but then saw the 2nd blue guy say its changed anyway so now this pointless post exists...can't delete so..

True and I'm not even sure I'd call removing it censorship. It's misinformation and doesn't really have any place in reviews.
It's great that the situation has been resolved, but the game should never have been released on GOG in its former state.

Can an employee make a statement about how they intend to prevent situations like this in the future?

This and maybe a gog staff should add a blue note that the problems are solved with a link to the thread. I would only remove it when gog would make up some fixed rules for the reviews and start cleaning them all up.

yeah, what he said
thats not the sort of thing I'd expect to find here and would have been upset if i bought the game in its past state to find that

___________
__________
Yeah, downvote as not helpful is open to interpretations that aren't helpful there...it could be the work of fanboys(in which case it would be believed and not bought), or downvote could make the guy look crazy(the review would be ignored).

blue tag saying the problem was fixed acknowledges the review was helpful that there was a problem and that it was fixed. Blue note attached to the review is best.

Agreed. I think GOG should remove that review, as well as Lars', since this whole episode has now been taken to the forums, though of course GOG should contact that scgog fellow to make sure he's alright with having his review deleted.

But first GOG needs to find a way to delete reviews (I know you're reading this Natalia) >_>

Which bit are you complaining about, the AIR dependancy, the opt out data tracking or the auto updater (that's the only phoning home if you opt out of the tracking)?
Pretty much buying in the next 30 seconds thanks to this developers attitude.

all of them?
(not drm or anything gog wouldn't allow but you don't need it phoning home every so often or air wasn't something he wanted and tracking is annoying.)
