SirPrimalform: Which bit are you complaining about, the AIR dependancy, the opt out data tracking or the auto updater (that's the only phoning home if you opt out of the tracking)?
avatar
pseudonarne: all of them?
Dunno, dude, given the developer's response, I just bought it for the full 7.49 I could (not the bundle price). That guy took all of it with aplomb and pumped out a version to try and address all concerns right before Christmas (may still be working on the Mac version fix). Fuck being mad at someone like that.

It's like saying, "Dude, that's not cool", then they say, "You know what, you're right, Imma change right now," and you being still mad at them.

Fuck that shit, reward good behavior, don't be pissed just because someone made an ignorant (from your point of view) mistake.

I'm not sure how any of those are things that shouldn't be allowed on GOG. I see no DRM or anything else that GOG doesn't allow.

orcishgamer: Pretty much buying in the next 30 seconds thanks to this developers attitude.
I bought the game back when it came out. I've talked to him a bit over PM since and yeah, he's a really cool guy.

think you misunderstand not mad at them, just agreeing about the previous version that those things would make people think twice(Ex that review) sort of on their own but more as a group
(so clarified post with parenthesis, hadnt thought it of being read like that cause i knew what i meant lol

I agree with orcish here, I bought it for the $7.49

Are you enjoying it so far Orcish? I played 2 hours worth this morning and I love it, it's both simple and yet deep at the same time, Positioning is actually really damn important and can mean the difference between totally dominating the field or passing weakly.

When making an argument or complaint, it's always best to communicate your message clearly and plainly as possible, with as much information as to why your making this argument/complaint as possible.

Is it bad that I bought it today and figured that whatever issues there were would get resolved?

Just got it an hour ago, worked 15.5 hours, not sure I'll get to it today:) I should enjoy it well, though, I love TDs and this one is supposed to be the best since Defense Grid.
This game is what I like to call a "life stealer". It sucks you in, whole. I paid the full 15$ price for it and I'm perfectly satisfied. Then again, by the time I bought it the issue mentioned here was already ressolved.

I personally don't like any of them, and as a bare minimum they should all have been disclosed prominently on the game page, but only the two "phone home" issues do I consider to be directly against what we've come to expect when we buy a game from GOG. True, it's not DRM as such, but it's in the same vein, and when I buy a game from GOG I expect it not to connect to anywhere I do not specifically tell it to.

Uhm, whatever makes you think anyone is mad at the developer? My issue is with GOG. Given that the developer immediately addressed all the issues as soon as he was made aware of them, he's a fucking saint in my eyes. And again, since he did so, he obviously didn't demand that these features should be in the game if he were to sell it on GOG. Hence, GOG willingly accepted those three things in a game to be sold here. I'd like them not to do that again.

Asbeau: Normally I hate any kind of censorship, but it might be a good idea to remove that review on the grounds that it's no longer relevant.
It's not really censorship if they removed the comment after removing the comment. I'm sure the developer approved the removal.

You know what's funny? I tried the demo of Defender's Quest earier this year, because I was pretty sure I saw you recommend it in the Tower Defense thread, and I ended up buying the alpha pre-order before the game was released on GOG. Now it turns out you didn't even own the game ... Maybe my mind was playing tricks on me, but it still lead me to do the right thing. :D

Anyway, I have nothing but sympathy and respect for the developer. Not only that he takes the customers' feedback and complaints seriously, he also gave out free GOG codes for all his previous customers, even though that must have cost him. That is one exemplary customer service that others could learn a thing or two from.
