Joking aside - that kinda stinks - his other job was completely unrelated to gaming, no?

Ha ha. :P

anyway, actually able to read the article now, so it makes a bit more sense, but still, overreacting much?

I guess their reasoning behind it was that people working there should be motivated enough to work under substantial stress and not complain about it. Gotta love the soulless government zombie who must enforce this rule.

I worked at a call center at everything from custserv to debt collection to phone sex (don't ask). I loved the calls, I loved the clients. Some of them - especially the debtors - made a habit of questioning my parentage and sexual preference - always a source of hilarity and a great morale boost. 13 hours per day, 30 days in a row. I could've handled more if they let me sleep on the windowsill. It was the coworkers whom I couldn't stand.
Doesn't seem like much of a "game" to me, but that's just my opinion.

Did they overreact? I don't know. Perhaps they took it as a veiled insult, or maybe they thought his attitude would carry over into his job, or maybe they just thought "You don't like working here? Fine, don't." The "pay more to help me get out of here" probably didn't help him either.
Huh - I was just looking at this game on Desura earlier this week.

Well, losing a part-time Revenue call centre job is basically a step up in life. Still, it's not nice being unemployed. I hope that gamedev works out better for him.

Worked in call centres for many years, i can say safely, the work environment and the co workers are the biggest things which kept me going :)
I've been a bit back and forth on this. Yeah, it sucks but he worked for a government agency and made a game about his work at that government agency, probably breaking some sort of contract in the process, and, what's more, is profiting off of it.

I've read stories where people were fired over blog posts or things they said on Twitter and a lot of them DIDN'T work for the government.

I do feel bad that he's jobless now but there are other notions at play.

Ironically by firing him they were pretty much his fairy godmother: granting his wish.

Yes, when the government tries to break something on opposite day, they fix it.
