orcishgamer: And it's fucking Steam, uhg! I suspect the co-op is entirely based around Steamworks so we're probably stuck with it.

tarangwydion: Ouch! That means it probably won't come to GOG?
Yeah, I was really hoping it would, but I'm not sure of the co-op is based on the Steamworks stuff or if they baked something else in (or are in the process of baking since it's not done yet).

I suppose once they're done with the multiplayer next month they'll launch on a few more services, it probably depends if they're Steamworks required or not.
This looks really fun... I would prefer to get it from GoG but the developer has it for the same price as Steam and provides a Steam key. I don't know if this means the developer gets more this way.

EDIT: I just bought it and it's cheaper from the developer site (fatshark.se) because I didn't have to pay a $4 VAT since I'm in Canada ^_^

One thing that has me puzzled is this:

"The main release of the game contain the first episode of the Krater campaign – Shadows over Solside that opens one of three nations located inside the enormous bomb crater"

So... this is episodic? $20 per episode?

Sorry for necroing an old thread, but this does look interesting...

It's better to re-use an old thread that's apropos than create a new one, imo.

I don't know if it's episodic, but the co-op isn't done yet, they were supposed to be releasing the co-op patch this month. The game looks really hard to define, yet intriguing. I guess if I could find 2-3 people to play with I'd pick it up for sure once co-op comes out.

For future "DLC" I guess check the fatshark forums, didn't see anything like that on there when I took a gander, but that doesn't mean it's not there, I didn't scan through all the subforums.

Ditto on re-using an old thread....

I'm guessing they may add the two of three other nations and quests as DLC, that's fine by me considering the initial game is quite cheap.

Co-op does sound like a lot of fun, I would do that too. It does have that Diablo meets X-Com sort of vibe, and in a group this could be a blast. Especially if it has an easy pick up and play factor and we don't have to spend five hours in an instance somewhere for a 2 per cent chance of getting something interesting. I don't play those kind of games.
I started playing this game last night and it's really, really cool.

It is sort of like Diablo, sort of like Torchlight, and kind of reminds me of Fallout: Tactics and elements of WoW as well.

You start with a party of three, a guy who hits things, a guy who shoots things and a guy who heals things. All three can fight, and all three have special abilities you can use in combat with cooldowns (the part that reminds of me of WoW).

The graphics are colourful and cartoony and quite pretty. The characters are interesting and humorous. The story is interesting, a Swedish Fallout-esque world where the real interesting stuff is underground (a la Torchlight).

There is a world map where you can travel to and from different places and fight in random encounters (Fallout style).

The combat is deceptively simple. You can be as tactical or as brainlessly clicky as you want (but will likely die a lot using that approach). This reminds me of the combat in Fallout Tactics. Sure you can run in and mass rush with your squad, but be prepared to get slaughtered that way.

Tank with your "bruiser," snipe with your "regulator," heal and fight with your "medicus." There are a lot of interesting strategies you can employ with these classes.

You can also hire a "slayer" to have a party of four, I haven't done this yet because I don't have enough money.

All in all, for $15 it's a really fun and interesting game. Also the music is excellent.

You can only have 3 characters active in your group at once - the rest of the characters you hire remain in town until you swap your group members around.
I found such a statement on their forum:

I actually think we are talking to Gog. We are talking to several online game shops like Gog and so on, problem for us is that most of them want us to support their things inside the game. Which takes a lot of time and effort. Though I think Gog was one of the easy ones since they are DRM free.

It was 6 months ago. What happened in the meantime?
