So, the other thread got me thinking.. We've all done it. We've all seen a game on sale that looked good, and then bought it and been "wow.. this isn't at all what I was expecting."

So.. what are yours?

For me: Septerra Core

It looked awesome, I like JRPGs, the world is awesome.. but the game itself fails to get my interest, and the combat is .. well.. so boring it makes traditional JRPG combat seem exciting.

From what I had seen of it, I thought it would be similar to Deus Ex or SS2, but I was wrong.

Empire Earth 3.

Do not buy it, no matter the price.

Bloodrayne. I always hated the name... and the cover... and the theme... and the game. Vampires and breasts... odd combo.

Of games that I own on GOG? I'll have to say Die by the Sword. I found the game to be very disappointing, from combat on down. If we expand to games on GOG that I've played elsewhere? Master of Orion 3.

Of the games I've purchased, Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption has probably been the biggest letdown. I found it to be incredibly monotonous and boring, to the point where I asked the GOG guys to remove it from my collection.

There is no way to tell just now. However when I have bought them all it will be the last one.

To be honest I've really enjoyed all the games I've played so far. That being said, I've only played through about 8 of the 40 odd games I've bought so far. Damn sales make it impossible to say no!

LOL! I did that for Tyrian 2000! I mean, the screenshots looked nice, and it was for free so I bit! But upon gameplay, it reminded me of arcade games from the late 80s/early 90s that were found in convenience stores. I was surprised the game came out in 1999! So I replaced that game with Freespace 1 & 2, both which look great.

But the games that I've purchased from GoG which've let me down are Police Quest #1-4 and Police Quest: Swat #1-2. Now, I'm not at the point wherein I'm ready to ask GoG to remove those games from my account, nor is my dislike for these games any inflection of how I feel about the local police, but these games are not even close to ever regaining their place on my to-do list.

I bought'em, for one reason, out of the joy I remember having when trying to play (but not getting anything done b/c I didn't have the manual) PQ1 when I was really young. But upon trying it out upon purchase again and the other games in the series now as an adult, with a clearer view of the world, the PQ series juss makes me sick, as its the game is completely reflective of how RL govt's seek to manipulate the police. It completely took the joy of imagining what it's like to be a policeman I had when growing up. Like I'm not at all supportive of a 'police state,' but I'm not in favor of a police force being subject to gov't cuts or (overpayment of) gov't boons.

I know that sounds weird, but that's the best words I can currently come up with to show how disappointed I was upon trying out my copies of the PQ series again. To put it in AD&D gaming terms, I went into the PQ series thinking Im gonna make Sonny Bonds a Neutral Good aligned cop whose gonna kick the bad guys asses! But the b/c of the system, which totally reflects real life, no matter Sonny's disposition, he's gonna be forced into either Lawful Neutral, Neutral or being subservient to Chaotic Neutral behavior (by being subservient to evil).

So for me, despite my liking I have for my local police force, it's juss much more fulfilling to play games I like, where my PC (& party) can follow their own positive moral compass, rather than a play the PQ series, which is directly akin to RL, and be subject long-term to shifty & shady gov't BS! :OD

Now Alpha Protocol, that game looks like a winner!
