OneFiercePuppy: I would *love* it if you were right, but you are so, so very far ahead of yourself at this point.
Actually, he's not. With the two clues already released, LucasArts is the only company that fits. Plus, the GOG guys have already issued a half-assed denial of sorts, which you know is basically a confirmation of our speculation. Besides, if TheJoe is ahead of himself, so are a whole lot of people who have been guessing about this all day.
At first I was excited for Lucasarts because I haven't played the X-Wing or Tie Fighter games for a very, very long time.

Then I remembered Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine.

HOLY CRAP I MAY FINALLY GET TO PLAY THIS GAME I"VE WANTED TO PLAY SINCE IT FIRST CAME OUT BUT I WAS A POOR CHILD WITH A CRAPPY COMPUTER SO I NEVER OWNED IT!

If you really want it, shoot me a GOGPM and we'll talk. ;)
The only problem with Lucasarts coming to GOG is that compared to a large publsher
( EA, Activision, Ubisoft etc ) they have a VERY limited games catalogue.

Many of those games appear to be adventure games...and frankly, there's a reason you don't see many of those types of game on the market nowadays as opposed to strategy titles or Rpgs. Still, Although I wouldn't buy a Lucasarts Adventure game, I can appreciate the originality and design behind them, it's just the format of the game I find un-appealing.

Plus it should be noted that STEAM have a shagload of Lucasarts software on their site, in fact probably most of Lucasarts games, if not all ? I can't see GOG getting a licence to publish titles that are already on Steam.

During the Steam Christmas sale this year I for one got all the Star Wars shooters, dark forces etc, and that just about exhausts my interest in Lucasarts games after that ( apart from the very modern games, Force unleashed and so on ).

Anyway, I'm digressing here, I don't think GOG will get Lucasarts stuff, more likely back catalogue stuff from big publishers.

That said...GOGs teaser did mention Stars.....

Eh?

Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle, Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Emperors Tomb, Fate of Atlantis, The Dig, Full Throttle, Battle of Brittain, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Afterlife, Star Wars: Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Knights of the Old Republic, Republic Commando, Empire at War, Outlaws, Sam & Max, Monkey Island, Loom, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Shadows of the Empire, Armed & Dangerous and plenty more I can mention. Getting Lucasarts will keep GOG busy for many months to come.
Bar your windows,
lock your doors! ;P
Dude
You have just mentioned all the adventure games ( which I have no interest in, but good luck to you if you like them) and after that, all the Star Wars shooters I already have as they came from STEAM on sale weeks.

Now go and make a list of the back catalogue stuff of EA, Activision or Ubisoft.
You would get 20 times as many games. I think Lucasarts range is very limited.
However, as I said if you like the Lucasarts adventures , go for it.

It's not as much about the quantity, but the quality. I'm not a LA fan myself, and i pretty much puke, when i hear any mention of SW, BUT, adding stuff from LA, like Monkey Island or the SW universe games, makes an echo, a very loud ECHO. They're guaranteed sales, and bound to bring a sh.tload of new users, and bound to make an impact on the unsigned publishers.

How are Emperors tomb, Battle of Britain, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Afterlife, Outlaws and Armed & Dangerous adventure games?

Also dismiss Star Wars all you like but they cover all genre's like Simulation, RPG, RTS, FPS and rail shooter.

Why don't you just say you are disappointed it's not your publisher of choice and wait for the next big announcement rather than telling people they are wrong because publsiher X makes more sense.
Good stuff. I would be very happy indeed to see the older Star Wars titles on GOG (the whole X-Wing/Tie Fighter series and Dark Forces, specifically).

Not all of those were adventures he listed, some were 3rd person action games, while others were simulation games.

Steam only has a small amount of Lucasarts games on their site, and not all of them work that well. Dark Forces works alright, I had to find a fan mod for Dark Forces 2 in order to get it to work right, KOTOR runs weird sometimes, and Fate of Atlantis won't play in full screen. Plus, Steam only has a small portion of the Star Wars games.

I want Rebellion, Rebel Assault 1 + 2, The Tie Fighter and X-Wing games, the Indiana Jones games which aren't on Steam, and Outlaws.

Sure, Lucasarts doesn't have as many games compared to EA, Activision, or Ubisoft, but in my opinion, they have a lot more quality games.

I would love for EA and Activision to show up here, and GOG already has Ubisoft, but a lot more childhood memories are found in the Star Wars games for me.

Plus if I remember right the Jedi Knight games on Steam don't have a soundtrack as it was a simple DosBox bash job. I like to think GOG will put more effort in than Steam usually do.
