R.I.P. #11

Edit: I've decided that this thread should be regarding anything Doctor Who, in case any faithful GOG forum goer just happens to be bored...not that we're REALLY bored :P. Post pictures, comics, news, crowd funding projects, opinions, or what not...why not?

Not a patch on Tom Baker

I should one day sit down and watch old DW.

Eh. This is one of few things i hate about internet. SPOILERS. Hate them. I would so much proffer to see last of him in the show than hear about it half year before.
I understand how much the show means to people but I seriously thought he had died.

I didn't read the articles, is he leaving or was he "invited to leave"?
I'm curious to know if he jumped or was pushed. The last series was a total mess, and it's possible that Moffat has been looking for a new bit of publicity to cover up the fact he's forgotten to actually write some characters rather than a series of events.

I saw only one episode (this one), but it was very good. :D
According to my fiance who stays glued to every Dr. Who article, not only was Moffat on board for the next season in 2014, Season 8, but Matt Smith was documented with saying he too had agreed to at LEAST go through season 8, but he had also worded it along the lines before that as "I would like to stay on the show for a while longer".

Needless to say there's a lot of disgruntled fans. He's officially announced that the episode at the end of this year, the next x-mas special, will be his last.

And yes, I agree the internet can be a bag of spoilers and then some.

In a way though the season's with Matt have gotten a bit drawn out, like it's been leading up to some epic event. In this case, be ready to witness the time war.

David Tennant and Matt Smith both will be in the special. They've both filmed and done interviews together. How it transpires, no one knows.

That, at least, has not been spoiled :)

*gasps for air*

Quickly! Get onto Netflix and start watching! Start with Season 1 with Chrisopher Eccleston. You've got 7 seasons and lots of specials to catch up on!

Too bad for Matt Smith. I strongly suspect that this decision was not entirely on his side.

Well, time for some wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff to bring back #10! Let David Tennant resume his role as THE Doctor! (one can dream)

Just a word of warning! There are no season 4 specials on Netflix, you really want to watch those before starting season 5.

edit: oh yeah, Netflix has regional shows and seasons. Forgot about that.

Yeah, I know Jinsei, I know :'(

I'd guess he's going of his own accord - nobody's going to work for everyone but in general he's been a very popular Doctor with both general viewers and fans (not knocking or doubting anyone if you feel otherwise, it's just there's a lot of special vocal 'fans' who seem to only like DW once it's at least 10 years old, anything else can do no right...).

Perhaps he's been offered another Hollywood film, too tempting to stay for another year. FWIW, I think he's a great Doctor, but then I like them all :D

I liked the last series a lot; the BBC were keen on pushing The Voice and consequently DW got some crap scheduling directly against ITV's big-hitter and had no trailers for 4 weeks. It still did well :D The only eps I wasn't so keen on were Rings of Akhaten and Neil Gaiman's Cybermen ep, both had some good ideas but didn't quite work and suffered from some odd direction. The rest of the season was brilliant IMO :)

Yeah Lukasz, it'd be nice not to know these things and I'd rather watch it all spoiler-free, but it's also kind of nice that it's big news here :) I wonder if it leaked, otherwise it's a weird time to announce it as there's nothing to publicise at the moment and it's going to be 6 months before he'll go.
Personally I always thought Matt Smith did a good job in an otherwise poorly-written show. As much as I love some of Moffat's earlier episodes, I think he performed MUCH better as a writer than as a producer.
