Just as it looked like EA were improving and turning away from restrictive DRM they get bought out by one of the biggest DRM loving bastard companies on the planet. It's too horrible for it not to be true. Kiss goodbye to any ideas of having EA on GOG.

It's probably to balance the rumors about Apple doing the same thing earlier.
M$ + EA = new Axis of Evil?
*shudders*
I don't think I'd want Apple to have EA, but this isn't really a good alternative.
Ugh. That would be horrible.
They'd probably cancel all of the PS3, Wii, and PC versions of games.
Riccitello is too shrewd a businessman to let this happen
That would almost be as bad as Apple buying them. Very nearly almost, in fact. But I don't see either of them managing to negotiate such a deal. EA has no reason to sell out.
Also: can't they go after Activision? I doubt anyone would care what happened to that company now.

I was under the impression Activision/Blizzard are owned by Vivendi International...
See here.
edit: which I should mention is quite a large company, and therefore unlikely to be open to selling its assets.

I know. I wasn't being serious. It's just a shame that they're not going anywhere any time soon. The best we can hope for is that Kotick's comments bite him in the arse and Vivendi see to it that he gets early retirement.
i was surprised to say the least but this is totally ironic that EA was doing all the buying last year would to get bought out themselves lol ! as for ps3 and wii game cancellations i would be
surprised if that would be true as they would most likely have to honor all in progress games at least until the next round of sequals lol

So MS would cancel games for the PC...which is still their biggest platform in terms of focus?

Biggest platform but not their most profitable one. The PC will always play second fiddle to the 360 in M$'s business plan.
Why would Microsoft want to buy EA? I thought MS was busy axing all their internal game studios.
I am confused. :(
All unsubstantiated at this point, so I wouldn't press the panic button just yet.

Well, they've only released one game for the PC in the past two years and they don't have any coming out in 2010, so it's safe to assume they already HAVE essentially abandoned the PC.
