kitzkar: Dreamfall was damn short and with a story that was built as though the writers had no idea where they wanted to go.

And that was brilliant. You know why ? Because it made the game unpredictable and a lot more like real life - you don't always get what you want or what's logical from your point of view. Also - as much as the protagonists are an important part of the world, NOT everything revolves around them.
Say what you will but I enjoyed Dreamfall a LOT. And as much as hardcore adventure fans aren't suppose to admit - the game's outlook also had a huge impact on that - incredible amount of graphical detail, beautiful music, believable sound effects, wonderful voice acting... All of this made the game really immersive.
Sure - the puzzles were mostly easy and there were some unavoidable sneak-or-fight situations... but in the end - it didn't feel wrong. This only added some tension, forcing the player to focus and giving a friend of mine (albeit - a feint of heart one) nightmares ;).
excellent. Maybe I'll wait and see if I win the random community draw, seems to be my week for free GOGs
best
adventure
ever
period
One of my favourite games of all time; with a fantastic story, great characters, creative puzzles, intelligent dialouge, and simply a magical setting that is fit for everyone. It even got my father hooked, and he's about as non-gamer as it gets. Anyone who has not played this yet has been missing out for the past decade. This is truly one of the best games ever made, for any platform, for any and all time.
I already got the original boxed Norwegian and English versions, along with the Steam release. So naturally, I have to get the one here on GOG as well. ;)
By the way, I personally consider the first game to be the best. Dreamfall wasn't bad either, but it just didn't feel the same; in my opinion, it had lost a lot of the magic atmosphere that made the original game so special. Still, definitely worth a play as well.
Two thumbs up to GOG and Funcom! Way up!
Also Funcom, I'm still waiting TLJ 3! Whenever it's ready! ;)
Hmm, that's right, it's Dreamfall I have the collectors edition of in the bookshelf.
Which mean I've missed out on it's predecessor so far.
This solves that problem though.

tor: Little known anecdote: I read somewhere that Ragnar Tørnquist's script for the game was originally in English, and the Norwegian version was translated from that. If true, this means that you could consider English to be the 'original' language, even though the Norwegian version of the game was released first.
I like the English version a bit better, but I agree that the Norwegian one is worth trying for Norwegian fans.
Edit: found references, straight from the [url=http://www.longestjourney.com/help/faq/general/language.html]mouth.
Personally I don't like the English voice work that much. It's perfectly fine for a game but the Norwegian version really shines in places. Especially the crow holds a special place in my heart. Also it gets a plus for starring Kristopher Schau, the vocalist from The Cumshots in a minor role.
The use of so much swearing is also proof that the game was written by a Norwegian. It comes of very natural in the Norwegian version since that's how people talk over here. Meanwhile you don't see much of that in English media that's not supposed to be edgy. It takes a bit of time getting used to it.
Anyway, this is a must buy for anyone who loves great adventure games and it still holds up fairly well to this day.
Instabuy! just like i promised.
seems that i'm the only here that really doesn't like the sequel Dreamfall.
This is a great game! I've already got a copy of TLJ on disc, but here's to hoping that GOG will offer Dreamfall in the near future. I've been wanting to pick that one up for a while now and would love to get it from GOG.

The Collector's Edition of Dreamfall should come with TLJ as well. Presuming it's the Collector's Edition in a white box with an artwork book anyway? Should have three discs - Dreamfall, a soundtrack and TLJ.

It is indeed the white box with the artbook ... can't remember TLJ being a part of it though. I guess I'll check when I get home...
Aha, a quick google reveals that it was only the UK edition that came with a copy of TLJ - all others just came with the soundtrack and artbook.
My copy of TLJ I got with the colectors edition crashes constantly (apparentlly due to some problem it has with multi core processors) Does the GOG one solve this problem? or does anyone know of a decent fix for that problem?
What I have played was absolutely amazing though. And I'm not ashamed (ok maybe a little) to admit I'm totally in love with April Ryan.

I never had that problem with the CE version. But if that is indeed the cause you can try running it with RunFirst.
Put that file in the same directory as the game's exe and then create a bat file with the line:
runfirst game.exe
Replace "game" with the name of the exe. Then point your shortcut to the bat.
The only reason I never became an adventure fan was that once I finished Myst (my first PC game) and thoroughly enjoyed it, I felt it had no replay value. I never tried other adventure titles once I bought Warcraft 2 because I noticed how much I could play WC2 and not get tired of it and how little I could play Myst once I figured out all the puzzles.
But as time has moved on I've realized I don't replay my games that much. Aside from a couple of classics, once I finish the main campaign, I end up uninstalling them. Sometimes I replay them again after a couple of years so in the end... I'm in the same boat as if I were playing adventure games.
I'll put this one on my wishlist and will fetch it once I've played through a bunch of other games I've already purchased.
