By today's standards, Pacman is a minigame. If you wanna shell out that kind of bread for it, go right ahead. I won't.

To me, this is worth a dollar. A dollar.fifty at most.

There are dozens of feeware games that are of similiar size and with a lot more gameplay variety. I'd sprinkle some cash on them first.

Honestly, would you buy this for $10 if it didn't hold the name Pacman?

Found some videos that has gameplay of the previous version. Enjoy, folks. :)

CGR Undertow - Pac-Man Championship DX review

GiantBomb quick look: Pac-Man Championship DX
avatar
grviper: Get it on a deep sale. DX on PS3 was fucking awesome, but not particularly long. The game is not really about randomly dashing across the maze, but about sticking to a route at increasing speed to build up a conga line of ghosts behind you, and them eat them all for a massive combo.
Yeah, this.

I picked it up in a bundle with Galaga Legions, which applies the same kind of bite-sized world championship approach to Galaga, both costing €10 together. I would say it was just about worth the money, although it didn't take more than 4-5 hours to 'platinum' each of them (for want of a better word, because neither game has a platinum trophy).

There isn't really an 'end' to the game per se - it's all about beating your own score and outdoing the rest of the world on the leaderboards, although there are people from Japan on that board where you can safely say that you have no fucking chance.
avatar
Sabin_Stargem: I would love it if GOG could pick up the game.
GOG can't. The publisher is Namco and that means it's not for sale in Japan. GOG only sell games available worldwide.

Tranquil.Suit: 10$ (= 10 euros) for Pacman? Are you insane? They better ship it with some digital crack rocks or something.
avatar
Kabuto: I suggest you read the glowing reviews it got (I believe IGN gave it a perfect 10) and some of the gameplay videos.
I was a bit surprised seeing a PC version of this, considering I bough "Pac Man Championship Edition" for my freaking Nokia Symbian phone (Nokia E66) several years ago (yes, I'm the guy who actually bought some games for Symbian OS from the Nokia Ovi Store; I bought also Pirates! and some Civilization-clone for it).

It was Pac Man on steroids alright, but still just Pac Man. I got bored of it quite quickly, but the flashy graphics and sounds were entertaining, especially for a mere Symbian mobile phone game. Interesting to see how they have developed this PC version further from that. After all, it has a "DX+" at the end now, that must stand for something.

EDIT: Checked a youtube, and while it probably has lots of extra features, it looked remarkably similar to the Championship Edition I played on the old Nokia phone. :)

EDIT2: Then again, reading Mobygames descriptions of both CE and CE DX, maybe there are more changes that are apparent from a quick youtube video.

With all due respect, this is not just a MAME ROM slapped together hastly

I have played this game and it really is awesome, one of the most fun games I played on PSN, considering the things that they have added - I think it's worth the asking price
avatar
Smannesman: I assume they're not selling anymore copies on XBLA and have now decided to try and squeeze some more money from their game on Steam.
Nice that they added $2 to the price as well.

Kabuto: The DX+ update will be free for DX owners on PS3 and 360.
That wasn't what I was saying, I was saying it's cheaper on PS3/360 than it is on PC and that they waited three years to release it on Steam and then still upped the price. That's kind of the point I was trying make.. I think.
I have heard great things about it, but that just seemed silly.
definitely worth 10 dollars if you haven't played it yet.
Okay, could someone explain to me what makes this version so special?

Steam achievements, of course.

Some kind of description here:

But I was more interested in what the "+" adds to DX+.

Anyway, I must say I am not that interested. I recall buying Activision remakes of Asteroids, Space Invaders and other coin op games for PC a long time ago, but nowadays I am less inclined to buy arcade remakes. Actually the Sinistar remake was the best arcade remake, possibly because it was quite different in presentation from the original Sinistar game, even if the idea was still similar:

The original Sinistar.

The Sinistar remake, Sinistar Unleashed.

As for PacMan remakes, this is the best of them all anyway:

That's barebones even for Mobygames. I was meaning, what is championship DX?
