Austrobogulator: What do you mean by JRPG - do you mean turn-based RPGs, or do you mean RPGs that are developed in japan?
JRPG is a pretty well-defined genre. Based on what OP listed, (s)he's pretty well working within the confines of this description.

Either, japanese-made RPGs or RPGs that are based/inspired by Japanese RPGs.

Crosmando: Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne
aka "Shin Megami Tensei : Lucifer's Call" in Europe.

Another vote Chrono Trigger. SNES edition, the PS1 release was lame.

Also, Shadow Hearts 1 and 2, and the prequel Koudelka for story reference. However, unless you're playing on a real PS2 emulating SH will require a lot of power and tweaking since timing is everything there.

Meanwhile, for a Japanese game where you actually pick a role instead of following an on-rails plot, check out Way of the Samurai series.

McDon: I'm interested in JRPGs but tbh I don't know much outside of FF, Dragon Quest,Pokemon and Persona. (Small bit of the man series) so what would people recommend?
You've had FF Tactics mentioned a time or two, and it's a great game. If you end up liking it, try Tactics Ogre and Disgaea, which are a lot like it, and Breath of Fire, which is a little less like it but also quite good. You can find them on the Nintendo DS quite easily.

If you can get it, Shadow Hearts is a J-lite JRPG, sort of a eastern/western hybrid in feel. With its sequel, you've got a fun game that gets very amusing and has a pretty good story, to boot. They're PS2 games, and should be available used.

If you play the recommended Star Ocean: The Second Story and like the more actiony JRPGs, then you should really try out the Ys series. You can get two of the games on Steam, and some of the newer ones for Sony systems.

This is open to discussion, but I'd call Recettear a JRPG, and I'd even say that Phoenix Wright is a JRPG, though, again, that's just a personal categorization and well open for slapping down. I'd give those a whirl, too. Whatever genre they belong in, they're fun games. Recettear is available for..uh..Playstation? I think so. Phoenix Wright, again, is on the Nintendo DS.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant is rather pricey even used. Nowhere near Devil Summoner kind of pricey, but sill.

arr0whead: Parasite Eve
The sequel is available for EU PSone classics but the original was never bothered to be available for EU, that seems a bit stupid to me.

What about the DS edition? Is it lame too?
How is Septerra Core (PC, avaliable on GOG)? It looks like a promising JRPG.

Fever_Discordia: ... Anachronox all the way, baby!
+1. Light on character creation and development. Funny all the way through and some very creative cut-scenes.
Golden Sun & Golden Sun: The Lost Age (GBA)
Earthbound (SNES)
Chrono Trigger (SNES, although the DS version is probably superior in every way)
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey (DS)

The combat engine is designed to be very slow, so battle-intense areas are a drag.
Last remnant is decent and available on pc though i use a 360 controller for it, you can pick it up on steam or GG for a few $/£ on sales
Knights of Xentar
Eien no Aselia :p
