Puts the “fun” into “funtasy adventure game”!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_book_of_unwritten_tales]The Book of Unwritten Tales, a wonderful and incredibly well-written point-and-click adventure game that spoofs almost every existing fantasy cliche, is now available on GOG.com 10% off for limited time. That’s only $17.99 until Tuesday, August 7 at 09:00 AM GMT.

The creators of The Book of Unwritten Tales are that masters of one very difficult but highly-valued genre of humor: parody. The game light-heartedly spoofs countless fantasy universes, drawing from books, movies, and games (although it focuses most of its punches on a certain popular MMORPG;)). Some of the characters are well aware of their predicament of being a part of a computer game, so expect the fourth wall to be shattered into small pieces before you reach the ending credits.

In The Book of Unwritten Tales you control the cast of unlikely (but very much likeable!) heroes using a classic point-and-click interface. They visit countless puzzle-packed locations--each beautifully presented in lush 3D graphics--that combine into a large and detailed gameworld. The adventure consists of five lengthy chapters interpersed with many top-notch cinematics, so the game guarantees hours of story-driven fun that will leave you craving for more.

The Book of Unwritten Tales--a splendid adventure with great voice-acting and heaps of witty punchlines will have you laughing out loud like a gleeful goblin for only $17.99 for the next 7 days.
Finally, this game belongs here.

adambiser: Looks nice.

I noticed that the release date on the game card is "July 31, 2012", but this came out a few years ago...
Well, that is just true for some few countries. The game has been released in German speaking territories in 2009 and the English localization was done in 2011 which has been released end of 2011 in UK retail and on some few digital platforms.

Now we are doing a worldwide release in hundreds of countries especially digitally - so yeah - it is more a new release than an old one ;)

Therefore I hope that you see that $ 19.99 is not too expensive but - under the condition of a (almost) new release, even quite cheap - it could have been 29.99 or 49.99 either if not taking care of the fact that is has already been released in German speaking territories and UK.

And @Sargon: World of Warcraft is just one of the hommages and parodies in the game. There are many more such as Lord of the Rings, etc.

Btw: here is a new launch trailer, hope you appreciated it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YM4EK0z-Mo

Thanks for answering and clarifying that even though I didn't mean my comment to amount to anything really. I don't follow all the ins-and-outs of games and the gaming industry as much as several users here. Many of the much older games are still new to me. :)

I didn't mention the price and don't really think that $19.99 is bad. Of course, as consumers, I think we all hope for lower prices on everything, but that's beside the point. :)

I'm glad that Nordic Games has kept up the JoWood games and continues to add more gems to the GOG catalog.
Oh, okay, if this game was brought to GOG by Nordic Games, who's already a business partner of GOG and only responsible for international, English language releases, that might explain why GOG has no access to KingArt's German version. Still sad though, I'm not as interested in the translated version without the original one included.

It's also released today on Impulse and on Steam .

I could not care less about Impulse and Steam :)

ne_zavarj: It's not the Digital Deluxe Edition . :(

Not includes:

Making Of Booklet
Soundtrack (all mp3)
Making Of A Character Video
It seems the RRP for the digital deluxe edition is $25, and I guess GOG couldn't pull getting the extras included for the $19.99 base price it's retailing at elsewhere. I certainly wouldn't pay an extra $5 so I think keeping the $19.99 price but with fewer extras is a good call.
Same old story. A German game released on GOG, but no German language, while other DD platforms offer it. Again. And. Again.

My feelings about this are starting to turn from disappointment into real anger. There is absolutely no excuse for this.

I will not going to buy this game, even with 50 or 60 % off, until something changes in that stupid English-only policy.

Doesn't explain the lack of multilanguage support for tons of other games here on GOG.
gog wont let me rate it for some reason. biut i would give it 5 stars, one fab game, nd ignore all those who want to critisise the game

Yes, I definitely played through some years ago. They should fix the date to be more accurate.

Nordic Games actually commented on that here. This is the worldwide release.

Thanks. This explains it. The publisher thinks the price might seem rather high if taken into accoun that most of the game was made in 2009 and GOG is displaying the official information. I see the problem in defining a release date, but I think the more common way would be to just display the most early release date available. This tells you more about how old a game really is. As it is now you might think it is a new game which is not the case.

Trilarion:
It's not the only game like this. For example, the Zork Anthology seems to use the release date of Zork Zero (DOS) instead of the original release date for Zork I... a difference of 9 years.

I pointed out the date because I hadn't heard of the game before, which isn't a big surprise because it happens a lot for me here, and it said that it was released today, but people were familiar with it, rating it, and writing reviews for it. I was a bit confused. Wikipedia showed releases in 2009 (Germany) and 2010 (UK), which added to the my confusion.

But anyway... it's not that big of an issue to me. It's still in the "new" category by how I look at things. 2012 would just make it "very new".
