The Dark Eye gazes upon you!

The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav, a classic adventure game with gorgeous hand-drawn graphics, set in a gritty fantasy world, is now available on GOG.com for only $14.99. That's 25% off until next Thursday, November 29, at 10:59AM GMT.

The world might be filled with magic, but for the ordinary folk it's still an obscure and frightening force. In everyday life there are only little sparks of mystical powers present, and most people don't even recognize them when they see them. Very seldom a commoner wields any magic power at all. So that little bit of power makes Geron, a teenage orphan raised by the town's huntsman, very special. He would consider it a gift, but his only magic ability is to break little things, so it seems more like a curse. The townsfolk don't even see anything magical about him. They just consider him unlucky and clumsy. But, due to some particularly nasty twist of fate, it's up to Geron to save the whole kingdom and solve a dark mystery that's been brewing right under the king's nose.

The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav delivers a story so full of nostalgia, that it instantly stands out from the contemporary crowd of light-hearted fantasy adventure games. There's little place for puns and sketches here. The world you face is harsh, and the people you meet in it adjusted to it. It doesn't mean, however, that you won't find friendship and warmth on your way. That wouldn't be a good story, if it were so.

Longing for a serious fantasy story with beautiful visuals? Don't wait--get The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav for only $14.99!
the art of this looks so stunning, reminds me of the beloved animated [url=http://www.csfd.cz/film/10102-carodejuv-ucen/]fairytales from Karel Zeman that we used to watch as little kids...

absolutely can't wait to play this!

The name rings a faint bell. Never played it though. Is the real title The Dark Eye: Realms of Arkania?

:P
Nope, but Drakensang and Drakensang: The River of Time are called that. On the other hand, who heard of these games before...

The real titles are:
Das Schwarze Auge: Die Schicksalsklinge
Das Schwarze Auge: Sternenschweif
Das Schwarze Auge: Schatten über Riva

Here you can see, how the game originally looks, not as it looks in the international version:

The title of the franchise is simply "The Dark Eye". "Realms of Arkania" seems to be an invention for the international market. Btw, there's no Arkania in the German version, as far as I know. The continent is called "Aventurien". :)
In this, case, Daedalic already warned us that it won't come here in German, so it's no surprise, but still a disappointment.

It's probably a licensing issue. Normally Daedalic publish their own games, but for Satinavs Ketten they partnered with Deep Silver, so they could use them to finally make the jump on Steam. But since DS loves to bend over for Gabe, and completely embraced Steamworks, the German version will be Steam-exclusive, while the international version still retains in the hands of Daedalic - at least, that's how I understand it.

So the only way to get The Whispered World (which I see now, was also published by Deep Silver) and Satinavs Ketten here in German would be to get Deep Silver on board, which probably won't happen anytime soon.
An adventure game and a logical platform game... not a good day for me. Well, there's always next week.

tburger: Damn those modern hand-drawn adventures..I'll have to buy them all at some point :-P
Ditto.

I have this old "The Dark Eye" game in my cupboard:

Somehow related? (EDIT: Maybe not...) I recall this got some praise back in the day.

As always, the game has just been sitting in my cupboard ever since I bought it, even though I went through the hassle of getting it overseas from US Ebay for premium price. Some guy was selling them there, shrinkwrapped. I feel they were almost collector's items back then already.

Now that I remember it... I actually bought it early September 2001, just before the WTC hits. I remember this because I was a bit anxious whether I will receive the item from US at all, because I think mail deliveries etc. were put on hold in US due to the attacks. But I got it eventually.

Such an excellent release, I'm so happy to see more Daedalic goodness here.
I too would prefer to play it in the original German, but still...

On the topic of Steam, wasn't this Steamworks-exclusive until now?

Really?? There were quite a few not bad RPG called DrakenSang (Dark Eye) series and even Drakensang Online MMO... But that's very popular in Germany and not that much in countries like Australia or Canada (although there were boxed versions for a very limited time).... Anyway there is so many games being released nowadays that it's so easy to loose track of them ... But lucky we have gog and good games end up there sooner or later...
Yes! Been waiting for this.

The Dark Eye setting is probably the best known P&P in Germany and it featureas a very "German" approach on the setting and rules. (Rather down to earth and unfancy)

Videogames in this series include:

The brilliant Realms of Arkania Trilogy (which every GOGer should have gotten for free by now)

The Drankensang series (including the current MMO)

Bunch of "Play your own adventure" mobile games which were made available for browsers. German only, but surprisingly good.

Divinity Divinity was developed from "The Lady, the Mage and the Knight" (LMK), which was supposed to be in this setting, but hundreds of years before the "current age".

Did you take the survey in October? Then you should have Realms of Arkania 1 + 2 on your shelf at this very moment.

It's the only game I can think of where you can disrobe your PCs, stroll naked through the streets, and take random damage from--I always assumed--the citizenry throwing garbage at you because you look like a pack of crazy naked bums.
