The Dark Eye gazes upon you!

The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav, a classic adventure game with gorgeous hand-drawn graphics, set in a gritty fantasy world, is now available on GOG.com for only $14.99. That's 25% off until next Thursday, November 29, at 10:59AM GMT.

The world might be filled with magic, but for the ordinary folk it's still an obscure and frightening force. In everyday life there are only little sparks of mystical powers present, and most people don't even recognize them when they see them. Very seldom a commoner wields any magic power at all. So that little bit of power makes Geron, a teenage orphan raised by the town's huntsman, very special. He would consider it a gift, but his only magic ability is to break little things, so it seems more like a curse. The townsfolk don't even see anything magical about him. They just consider him unlucky and clumsy. But, due to some particularly nasty twist of fate, it's up to Geron to save the whole kingdom and solve a dark mystery that's been brewing right under the king's nose.

The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav delivers a story so full of nostalgia, that it instantly stands out from the contemporary crowd of light-hearted fantasy adventure games. There's little place for puns and sketches here. The world you face is harsh, and the people you meet in it adjusted to it. It doesn't mean, however, that you won't find friendship and warmth on your way. That wouldn't be a good story, if it were so.

Longing for a serious fantasy story with beautiful visuals? Don't wait--get The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav for only $14.99!

N0x0ss: See if the game is any good ^^ Kind'of a review I guess or at-least first thoughts (on the company, the screen shots, eventual prequels etc..) if the game is brand new.

It's like "Ok I get it already.. you guys are not happy the game is only available in english... but any other thoughts on the actual game ? "
I liked the game, it's a solid p&c with mostly logical puzzles ( at least from what I remember). The story is decent and the scenery is quite beautifully drawn. I can't compare it to other games from the dark eye series through, as I find it very hard to compare rpg's with adventure games in general. As for the voice acting, I only played the game in english and the voice acting was ok for me ( btw.: the english voice acting in the whispered world drove me crazy). Overall I think it's a good buy for anyone that likes adventures.

Hope this helps you out a little:)
I've seen trailers of the game and a few minutes of a playthrough, but I can't get over the cheap animation. If they had just kept their mouths shut and just hear a voice, at least your mind can do the imagination of seeing them talk. But it's just awful how they made their talking animation. It's however very stunning and beautiful to look at, until the animation.

Such a shame. It kills it for me, though I am always the person to go for gameplay and story.
mot my cup of tea but nice to see here

amcdermo: Does this game feature an evil satellite navigation system?
avatar
JudasIscariot: Maybe I'm old but what do you mean by that? O.o
A satellite navigation system is called a Sat Nav in the UK. It was an attempt at a joke.

I thought it was Satnav aswell, lol.
This is an awesome adventure. Glad to see Daedalic games here.
Is there an original audio with english subtitles option?

Nope, the original version won't see a release here due to licensing issues, they can only sell the translation with English voiceovers.

I guess it's too much to hope for an undub :(

Also Daedalic games (or most games, actually) don't support selecting language and subtitles seperately. You can just install one language version or the other, there's no language manue or something like that.
Sadly, the games industry hasn't adaptet the this standard from the movie industry.

N0x0ss: They're free not to buy but they should stop yelling and complaining like they do about there not being German versions like it's the end of the world...
avatar
Leroux: It's actually impossible to "yell" in forums unless you post a video of yourself yelling, and complaining about complaints isn't any more helpful or entertaining than what you criticize yourself.
Now complete off topic for the thread
Hmm I think the general convention for yelling on the internet is to use all capital letters, people on the internet always find a way.
That said it is very hard to express more slight emotions, sarcasm etc in text form, too often gets miss interpreted.
There's nothing I can add here that hasn't been said already, so I remain with a short "no German language, no buy".

Bloodygoodgames: Didn't like The Whispered World very much (controls were abysmal), so I'll pass on this one.
Urk, not played TWW but how do you screw up the controls in an adventure game?

Well you could use tank controls, for one! >.>

But yeah, P&C seems like it'd be pretty hard to screw up, controls-wise.

Grim Fandango's controls were fine! :P

There were even camera relative controls for all you sissy people who don't know how to drive a tank..!
