i just now got to know that the really awesome, great and revolutionary achievement to the gaming industry named Games for Windows Live, given to us from our beloved company #1 microsoft, were shut down since first july 2014.

it i s a sad time not only for microsoft but for us gamers too. i especially will always remember it, when i play fallout 3.

so i'm sure that you also have some last words say/post, while we all mourn.

R.I.P. Microsofts Games for Windows Live
What is your problem with apes?
Except it wasn't shut down, MS claim they'll keep it on. Check the last pages of this thread

uhuh, sure :P

in FO3's case it was a better system than what came after IMHO.

well maybe Zenimax will come here.
No PC gamer will ever miss GFWL. Any PC gamer that will actually miss GFWL is weird.

It's all about gog.com and Steam, mostly gog.com. The future of 100% DRM free. Screw Steam.

Except that now both Lost Planet games, Bullet Storm, are in danger of being completely unplayable, which is exceptionally notable in the case of LP2 because that game is basically co-op only. Well, I suppose that the console versions are still functional, but that brings up another issue in that any game that requires GFWL is now no longer a PC game.

It is all well and good to play sheaple, parroting the Steam or nothing crowd in how it was the Antichrist of gaming, but keep in mind that GFWL shutting down just took a sizable chunk out of the PC game market ...

I'll certainly miss GfWL. A number of my pc favorites will be crippled if/ when the service goes offline. Much like the closure of Gamespy, this is nothing to rejoice about. :(
Yeah, GFWL is definitely not gone yet and as far I know there's no (public) plans for it to shut down, either. But, honestly, GFWL seems like such a failure that I can't imagine Microsoft is going to run it that much longer.

I can empathize with the people who have games they want to be able to keep playing, but honestly I'm kind of disappointed that the more popular games that would've been forced to Steamworks are able to cling desperately to the GFWL client a little while longer. For example, I held off on buying Dark Souls this last Steam sale because of how many GFWL problems people seemed to have...

That's good to know! Cause a lot of single player games also had their saves in the clouds and they made it complicated to play them offline. :P

GFWL does not save in the cloud. Saves are stored locally but you have to log in with the correct profile to access the matching save data (just like on the Xbox consoles).

If you don't care about online play or achievements you can make a local profile which never needs a connection to the GFWL servers; a few games may require initial activation (most don't use GFWL's DRM component). Bulletstorm does not permit local profiles but can be played offline once the profile has been downloaded.

I would like to say "good riddance" but I can't, because GFWL hasn't gone anywhere and is still kicking and alive.
You should inform better yourself, apehater, before creating a thread like this. A quick use of Google and you'll be up-to-date.
Rest in war, GfWL since you liked it so much !

DRM shackles, ladies and gents ! I prefer any other DRM over that. I hate MS, I hate it as well.
Not sure if serious or trolling.
