F4LL0UT: Actually I liked Fahrenheit's QTE's ...
I see. In that case, you can expect more or less same from Heavy Rain. There are some ridiculous writing stuff and a "wrong" solution cuts you from more scenes. Still, I enjoyed watching my friends to play it because - to my surprise - they chose or played almost always something differently and it offered small new things.

F4LL0UT: Yeah, I know, as mentioned further above a few friends...
Wow, you have sweet friends. I disliked Uncharted 1 and I actually rage-quited for a first time in my playing history :D. It was my first shooter on consoles and so freaking slow aiming or weird camera angles were frustrating. However I gave it a second try later and while I wouldn't give it 10/10 I was quite fond of the series in the end of the game.
Note: I'm not trying to convince you to like it :).
I have some technical problems with my PS3 right now, I already posted about it on the official PS3 forums but well, no answer there yet and since many of you guys are PS3 owners I thought that maybe some of you may know a solution.

Anyway, my PS3 games are always running in surround mode while the console is connected to a stereo audio setup. In 3D action games like Infamous and Killzone this means that all sound sources located "behind me" are completely silent and it's driving me nuts. It's the same when I use my hi-fi amp which is connected via component and when I use the TV speakers connected via the same HDMI cable as the video. I checked all the audio options the console and the games have and there doesn't seem to be anything that will just tell the console that it's supposed to run in stereo mode. Setting the HDMI audio to "2 ch." doesn't do the trick and it's even more insane that this issue occurs when I use component for audio since the console seems to officially only support stereo when using component.

So, any ideas?

Mivas: 1. Uncharted Trilogy Pack - You can find first-hand for like $30. It's a corridor shooting but writing is pretty good and I had a great time during these circa 10-12 hours per game.
you don't know what a corridor shooter is if you think Uncharted is one...

good recommendation, though. get all 3 Uncharted games. as far as videogame-making is concerned, it doesn't get much more accomplished than this.

From what I've seen of Uncharted it's pretty close to being a corridor shooter. :p

Anyway, so anybody have an idea how to solve my audio problem? I've tried zillions of things and it just doesn't work. It's really driving me nuts. Also it's totally insane that an issue which is solved so easily in PC games is so ridiculously complicated on a console. >.<

You are moving always forward in 95% of situations, path behind you is always artificially cut off. I don't really know what else it does have to do to fulfill your definition. The facts that there are 3 meters long blind alleys with a collectible and you can kill an enemy also with fists don't make it fall out of corridor "genre" in my book.

Unfortunately, I don't.

Agreed.

I'm sad. :(

I have searched half the web on this issue, all I find is unrelated garbage . Seriously, how hard can it be to make a console ACTUALLY run in stereo mode, so the games don't try sending any audio to nonexistent speakers? It should be easier to achieve stereo than setting up surround sound but no, some asshole over at Sony apparently didn't think that an easy way of setting the console to stereo is important these days with "everyone" having a surround system at home. >.<

I assume you've already found this, right? Not sure if it will help or not, as I don't have a PS.

Yeah I have, but thanks. That article even confirms that when using the component cable (or "input connector" <.<) you can only have 2 ch. stereo - and yet the console/games are running in surround mode.

Two more questions, though I doubt they will help.
1) Is Audio Multi-Output off?
2) If you play a DVD/Bluray that has 5.1 audio, does the missing sound still happen?

Thanks but again, sadly it didn't help. However, things are different than I thought. Turns out that some games do work fine in stereo mode while others don't. Sounds are missing in Killzone and Infamous, however, today I put in Killzone 2 and guess what, stereo sound works just fine there. Seems that the PS3 configuration is alright, then - the question is whether it's actually possible that both Infamous and Killzone were so incredibly botched in terms of audio that you actually need a surround system in order to hear everything. <.<

F4LL0UT: Mortal Kombat (I know, soon to be ported to PC >.<)
Yeah but the PS3 is the only one to have Kratos from God of War as a playable character. Though it's seems small, it's pretty nice if you're someone who wants the "complete" edition or just the cool factor of playing a cameo character.

Edit: Actually speaking of cameo characters, surprised no-one has mentioned Playstation: All Stars. Though I heard it's nowhere near as good as Smash bros. the fact that you're playing as Sony characters should be fun and it's meant to be a different experience from Smash Bros. (whether that's good or bad is up for debate).

Indeed, didn't think of that. And Kratos is actually a surprisingly good addition to the MK characters, plus I've actually kinda become a fan God of War and Kratos.
As a PS3 owner Little Big Planet 2 is a musthave. It might look a little bit childish but it's really nice and the levels also get very hard. The real fun part of this game is the leveleditor where you can easily build levels even together with friends local or online. Then you can share them with the community and play levels which were created from others. There are already thousands of user created levels. So when you played through the campaign it won't get boring.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is also a really nice game but if you are not familiar with the MGS series you might be confused of the story. In fact every MGS part has a lot of story which refers to the previous parts. One cutscene can for example takes up to 30 minutes where the protagonists only talk about story relevant things.

have you tried looking at the in game options too?

it could be that while your system is set for one thing, the game is setting itself for surround mode ...

*edit*

additional thought: since it is a well documented feature that you can set up a Japanese PSN account on a western system, it may also be possible to set up a NA PSN account on a EU system .... however I highly doubt that your PS+ sub will transfer since it will technically be a different account than the one you subbed with.

just a thought if there is something on the NA network that you want.

Yeah, checked everything. Seems the game is hardcoded to run in surround mode. Neither does it adapt to the system settings nor does it provide anything related to this in the ingame settings (unlike say Resistance 2 where you can switch between Stereo, Headphone and Surround mode ingame). Well, I've already beaten the game anyway, even unlocked most trophies. I don't think I'll return to this one anyway and the issue won't keep me from getting the last trophies.

Yeah, I've already set up multiple accounts (I tried getting the Infamous DLC from the NA PSN - which sadly isn't compatible with the European release). And indeed, the PS+ features can't be transferred to another account. I don't care whether my main gaming account has PS+ anyway, the PS+ account I got is UK while my main gaming profile is Polish and it doesn't cause any trouble (which would only be the case if PS+ was necessary to play online like in case of the Live Gold accounts on the Xbox <.<).
