Great news! The first patch for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is available right now in the "additional content" area of your download in "My Account" This patch fixes a number of issues. From the patch notes:

1. Fixed the free Troll Trouble DLC download. It is now included in the patch so there's no need to download and install it separately.

2. Fixed an issue that prevented some users from downloading other free DLCs (the ones given out with some pre-orders, special promotions, etc). The launcher now properly refreshes the list of available DLCs and allows for installation.

3. Performance improvements: approximately 5% to 30% better framerate and faster game loading for many users, depending on their individual systems and game versions. Owners of retail versions can expect the biggest improvements.

4. Fixed random crashes occurring on some systems, especially after saving and loading saves.

5. Key mapping – allows the arrow keys to be used for movement.

6. Added the option to invert the mouse.

7. nVidia surround vision now works properly.

8. More accurate assessment provided by the "auto-detect settings" option will help improve game performance.

9. Removed a bug that prevented completion of the “Blood Curse” quest.

10. GOG.com credits now work properly.

The last bugfix, of course, was the most important one, since you can now see who worked so hard at GOG.com to bring you the best digital version of the game anywhere on the 'Net!

As always, you can head over the The Witcher's website or let us know in our forums if you're experiencing problems.

Note: This patch only works on the gog.com version of the game.
Those people complaining about the removal of DRM in other versions do remind me of a biblical parabel. :p

If you bought at GOG, you got what was promised to you. That is right and fair. What others would get is in no way part of your agreement with gog.
Drm and forced registration including Steam is a huge pile of steamy poop. I cracked my hard-copy the moment a crack was available. Publishers and their apparently dumb-as-f*** investors with ZERO computer litterarcy have to learn that BS like this just hurts the industry.

Next time just make a release day 1mb patch if you don't want pirates to play the game before launch day. Saves everyone from getting registration headaches and a saves lot of money for licensing securom that could be otherwise invested. Like in a tutorial for the Witcher 3 for example...
Well there you go, games just run better without DRM and DRM often leads to trouble for gamers. I do admit I bought for a few reasons, colleague at work raved about the first one, DRM free and to support the developers more directly.

Well one thing is for sure my system is fine for Good old games and incapable of playing this one properly (graphics card just isn't up to it and the processor could do with an upgrade). Guess I'll be playing the game a little later when it is older and maybe a few more patches have come along from all you trailblazers experiencing the glitches first.

You have to download the patch from the extras section on your gog shelf for TW2.....also it only works for Gog's version.
to be honest, i am experiencing performance DECREASE. I have HD6990 4gb and it fucking LAGS on high, before patch i could play without problems!!!

The patch reset my graphical configurations. Did you go into the config tool to make sure they're the same as before?
Posting just to tell that after patch 1.1 it seems i got the same issues then before plus one new really game breaking, im writing here as atm there is no official place on the net where to report issues.

I still have issues in loading savegames where usually i need to CTRL-ALT-CANC, open the activity window, wait a litte to see the game response then ALT-TAB again in the loading screen, this is my standard workaround to avoid endless loading savegames.
This problem is still there.

There are some things that im not sure if they are bugs or not so ill wait to post about them, in example i see "green" dot on an npc but i cant interact with him or some dialogue lines that are presented only once, and if skipped for another question they dont return again when talking to the npc a second time, even if all the other lines are again present.

About game performances i cant tell much, im playing with low-mid settings AA on, rain on, i didnt notice anything except the fact the patch resetted all the settings and keymapping, but about that i didnt have any major issue even before.

But here comes the new huge issue:
Since patch 1.1 the target cursor in combat is no more visible, which make the game more or less unplayable, anyone else is experiencing that ? there is a workaround ?

Only mentioning here the issues actually related to opinable if not bad design, like the looting system, the poor inventory design, expecially sorting on schematincs/patterns and junk is absent and its a total mess, the alchemy panel where the auto selection of ingredients doesnt care about the rarity of the items and also is missing any sorting option between potions and other stuff, and also the trade panel is something prehistoric with no options to hide from the list the patterns you just have etc.
The looting panel and general UI should be scalable, the object infos scrolling text should be converted in instant popups.
Cant get why the menus are so tiny and full of scrolling bars when half of the screen is unused really.
Anyway prolly this patch was not related to such issues but just on stability/drm issues i guess, i hope anyway we will see some improvements on this side too, sometimes it seems im playing oblivion as menu/inventory system, and its not something good.

EDIT: i forgot to tell about the weights, defo its needed a full rebalance, some weights are just totally unrealistic without any reason (like ladders... btw why a bandit should go around with 2 ladders in his backpack ?? mistery).

Im playing on Intel dual core duo 3.2ghz, 3gb ram, ati 5770 1gb, win vista 32.

cw8: So does it allow for other keys to be mapped? I want to map the Signs to the number keys before I go crazy pressing Ctrl every few seconds. I'm heavily Magic specced.
To be honest I haven't had much of a chance to play the game since the patch. Well no chance that I took anyway. Gaming is mostly a weekend thing these days.

But if they say they're allowing use of the numpad then that should include full ability to map everything, or it's not worth them mentioning, really.

Gizmojunk: Did they buy GoG's version to gloat at 'friends' whose version was DRM'ed? No sense at all.
avatar
Grilledfish: No sense keeping others down to just to feel superior about yourself.
avatar
Kunovski: we all know the policy of GOG/CD about DRM, so it was clear that the DRM will go some time as did with Witcher 1 (however early it is).
avatar
Wersy: Bullshit. They never said they would keep all the other versions DRM-infested forever just to keep the GOG users happy... You had you DRM free exclusivity period, in what way exactly do you feel deceived?
avatar
TheEnigmaticT: while CDR RED was probably going to remove the DRM eventually (as they had for The Witcher 1), I don't believe anyone planned to remove it this soon.
avatar
Kleetus: They sound like spoiled brats.
They still have the most superior version, and it's not like they've lost anything.
avatar
SLP2000: If anyone feels bad about DRM not being exclusive now, you should think about those, who bought Collector's Editions for an exclusive DLC, which is now not exclusive.
Good point here.

I really didn't want to do this, but, seeing as people are determined to be rude and demeaning I just can't sit here and shutup. People who are angry that GOG advertised the Witcher 2 as the only place that you can get the game DRM free are, as far as I know neither brats nor spoiled, nor wanting to be superior to others.
And for those of you who say "we all knew that the Witcher 2 would be DRM free for everyone one day." I can safely say, that no, we did not All know that the DRM would be dropped, I'm afraid, I for one don't keep up with the latest news from CD Projekt RED, nor do I know of any reliable fortune tellers. Just because one knows something, try not to assume everyone else must know that too.
When I saw that GOG had the only DRM free version here, I was very tempted to get it, and the great Pre-Order bonuses too, I unfortunately, do not have 45 dollars laying around to spend on just one game(or 2 if you count the free one with it), so I didn't do it. I am now not quite as disappointed that I'm not that well off.
I love GOG, and think they are the best site for games online, they have some of the best games ever made in my opinion. But, just because I love GOG, that doesn't mean that I think they or anyone else for that matter is infallible, and should be defended for everything that happens.
GOG MISLED people, whether on purpose or not, it is still truth. Yes, this is often what marketers do to get sales. I worked in a sales environment for some 8 years, I know how some things are done. I believed when I read GOG's statement about their site being the only place to get the Witcher 2 DRM free, I bought that line, I believed it, and one day I planned to buy it here. That line was as close to a lie as you can get without actually lying. Some want to defend that? Really? Okay...

Let us say you got a limited collectors edition of some product, be it a game, a painting or whatever...then let's say that just one week after that comes out the company produces a million of the exact same thing as you just bought. When you bought the product, you saw in big letters: Limited Edition Only Available Here. That grabbed you in, that is why you decided to buy it, it was special, unique.
I know there are a thousand lines that can be said to defend GOG, I have said a few myself at times....But, no matter what you say, you cannot defend the truth of what transpired. Sure, GOG did not lie to anyone, they were for a Whole week, the only site that sold the Witcher 2 DRM free...But come on, be truthful with yourself, surely you see now that, that whole DRM free promotion was quite possibly just a sales ploy to convince people to get it here and to draw them to their site. Can't some at least see this as a possibility, or maybe they think it is still okay?
I personally think it is not a very large matter, like I said I haven't even got the game yet. At the same time, I don't like it when people are rude to me or others, when they have a valid point. Granted you may not like their point, you may look at the country they are from and picture a certain slimy person, drooling over their keyboard, or you may read more into what they are saying then what they said, or you may even be blinded by the albiet awesome brightness of GOG.
Never, though, turn a blind eye to the truth in front of you.
We all make mistakes, we all say little lies, but, when we do so to make money, I'm afraid I have to call someone out.

ON the other hand, like the famed EnigmaticT said, maybe GOG did not have any idea that the Witcher 2 would be DRM free ever, or at least any time soon...Really, the Witcher 2 DRM free promo might not be their faults at all, and I know mistakes happen. Maybe the company was just trying to help the game run better for everyone like they say. Maybe everyone is innocent here. But, that does not, or could not change the fact that some people felt they have been decieved..After all I said I hope that makes sense now.

I still love GOG, and still think they are great, and from what I heard the Witcher 2 is a great game too.
So I guess, what I really want to say is, please do not attack people who are being honest, and have a valid argument (I know I know "It's not valid!" some will scream). If you still do not understand the point I have put forth in argument, I am sorry, there is nothing at all I can do for you, please do be angry with me, I'm not a bad guy really.
All, I ask, is for people not to be so rude to others simply because they see things in a different light than you do. There is no reason to attack people that have no chance to defend themselves at that time. Calling people names, is something for children, if you are still a child, then I understand completely, because we were all young once. If you are older, please think and treat others as the people they are. Thank you all for your patience with me.
And thank you GOG you are still tops in my book...maybe not perfect, but, who is? :-)

Oh, and I thought Most of the above quotes I pasted were fine, and some I just did to help illustrate my point. Thank you all. =)

KOCollins: when they have a valid point.
They do not have a valid point, they received what they paid for,

Nowhere did it say that they would be the only ones with a DRM-free copy for eternity.

In fact, it was stated that the DRM would be removed in the future, which was exactly what happened with the first game.

And now that it's happened, rather than being happy and supporting CD Projekt, we have people complaining.

Unbelievable.
Wait, so the patch breaks the game?

Should I wait a while before I jump back in? I already applied the patch.

Also, has ATI released their hotfix yet?
How is having a DRM free game, available virtually everywhere, a bad thing? I bought my version of the game not just because of it being DRM free but for other reasons, getting the artbook, supporting the site and company etc...

If the company as a whole is against DRM (Join the DRM freee revolution, rah, rah), and we as gamers want our games to be our games both new and old, then why would anyone think that patching out DRM as soon as humanly possible for everyone is so horrendous?

I dream of a day when I can buy a game anywhere based on price an product, not on DRM.
