THQ is hurting right now. They're being hit with layoffs and the CEO took a 50% paycut. It's not looking good, but perhaps there is an opportunity here. Games like Red Faction, perhaps Warhammer 40K and maybe even "newer" games like Company of Heroes.

I also don't know if Relic still holds the rights to Homeworld, maybe that series could come over as well, since it doesn't appear to have been given to GOG through Activision.

Edit: Wrongfully assumed Destroy All Humans was on PC

If worst comes to worst, someone will buy them out. There are enough seriously wealthy young tech entrepreneurs out there who would take it for sentimental value/bragging rights, with the intention of turning it around.

We'll know for sure around July 23rd, but the chances of them regaining their public listing before then are minimal to none.
The more CEO's taking pay it's the better. :D

More pointedly though, perhaps it's their policy of putting out blasé content and locking off content through DRM and pay gates that's caught up to them already. I had high hopes for Red Faction.

It would be awesome if Homeworld ended up here, though.

The main culprit seems to be that the corporate types kept shoveling money in to acquiring games licenses for kids shows, despite that being a rapidly fading part of the industry. And of course, the uDraw. That thing was a clusterfuck and an enormous money sink.

Hopefully they can pull through...THQ have produced some really good games.

Nope.

My mistake I thought it was, whoops.
They did iPhone/Touch/Pad games from the Star Wars saga if I'm right. Or is that totally diiferent? Anywho, I do have fun playing those games. Don't really know much about any other games they have done. Will have to read up on them more.

Yeah I figured that must have played a large role. With the Wii and DS fading it makes a lot of sense. Still fits in with my blasé accusation. I feel kind of bad about the uDraw, they were probably banking on the Guitar Hero phenomena to make a comeback of sorts. A huge risk which they needed way more marketing and games behind if they wanted to guarantee its success. But it's probably better off dead rather than helping prolong the Wii's stagnation.
I mostly just hope they see the light in this near-death moment and release Zanzarah here. Of course Homeworld and its sequel would be nice as well.
this sucks. THQ is IMO one of the better publishers out there. they have a solid line-up of core games, especially in the PC RTS sector with Relic and their Dawn of War and Company of Heroes franchises. Space Marine was a bit of a surprise hit for me, and Homefront was a pretty fun MP shooter that didn't do too badly, either.

however, they have taken a few weirdly bad decisions. one was the pointless acquisition of kids' licences, the other was the new business model for some of their games that centered around the idea of releasing only a barebones game at a reduced price, with a ton of modular DLC available for separate purchase. this flopped badly, and i can't believe they didn't see this coming. i could see this from a mile away when it was announced...

i hope they pull through, though. i can't bear to thought of Relic being acquired by 2K Games or UbiSoft...

I actually bought a slew of THQ games in the 2010 Steam Christmas Sale. The entire catalogue they offered at the time. So yeah, I do like THQ games. But this year was just awful and I lost complete faith in them. Online passes were part of it.

Bad decisions have repercussions. Good! It's how it's supposed to be.
I'm sick and tired of these greedy bastards taking one bad decision after another, and most of them being anti-consumer, and still be able to come of top. And I'm not referring just to THQ here.

the repercussions should be limited to the decision makers, though. what usually happens is that the entire company suffers, and that sucks.
