Share your Good Old Gaming memories and get up to five $9.99 games!

We are all retrogamers at heart and our identities are built on the foundation of classic gaming memories. We know you have plenty of those as well. Memories, that is, not identities (and even if, let’s just not go there). We would like to give you an opportunity to tell us about your very own greatest classic gaming moments and grab some free games in the process!

"Let's play" videos seem to be all the craze these days. But they’re so 2010’s. Let’s do something with more of a retro-feel. Let's talk about the classics! Tell us your "GOGgame Story"! There has to be at least one game on your GOG.com shelf that holds a special place in your heart. One that you think of more like an old friend than just an item of electronic entertainment. Recall the good times you had with it, record a video and upload it to YouTube to share your love for classics with the world and get a chance to grab some free games!

To put it in six simple steps:

1. Look at GOG.com catalogue of games.
Choose one that you feel like you have much to tell about.

2. Make a "GOGgame Story":
a video of some in-game footage, your commentary, and maybe even you in person--just about anything that will spice up your video.

3. Please include the following screen at the end of your video.
The image is provided in 720p resolution. If your video is smaller, re-scale or crop, but keep the 16:9 aspect ratio.

4. Upload your "GOGgame Story" to YouTube.
Call it something like "[Game Title], a GOGgame Story, by [YourGOGForumNickname]" and make it public. Also, please include the following text in the video’s description: “The game in this video is available on http://www.GOG.com”.

5. Provide a link to your video in the thread below.

6. Profit!*

* Starting next week, each Friday till the end of November, the video with the most views will be awarded with 5 codes (each for a $9.99 game). The same prize will go to the author of the most cereative video (Mr. A, our Video Ninja will be the judge of that). Yet another pack of 5 codes will be given to the author of GOG's favorite video (by popular vote of our whole staff). Three runner-up prizes, 1 code each, will be handed out as well. Ingenuity, humor, and creativity will be taken into account. Multiple entries are allowed. A public list of winning videos will be held in the forum. Picking a game that didn’t already have a winning video created for it, will improve your chances. As well as wearing a monocle and a top hat in the video. Just kidding. Or...?

That’s the whole deal - pick a classic game that you love from GOG.com catalogue, tell the internets your "GOGgame Story", get free games. Sounds pretty easy, eh? Well, ladies and gentlemen, start your cameras!

cannard: The best video so far I'd say is easily the Battle Chess video. Raises the bar for the rest of us!
avatar
Lambda462: Wow, Battle Chess raised the bar by a mile indeed.
Thanks guys! I have quite a bit of background in video work. But this and all the other videos on my site at Rerez.net are all pretty new. Really trying my best to express my love for video games in these videos. (especially Battle Chess)

shaned53: Just recorded it and now exporting.

It has no humor, but it's a story that involves my early childhood. And a challenge that would not be accomplished for many years.

EDIT:Oops, it seems like they sorta hint towards having gameplay in it.
Debating if I should scrap this and do a gameplay video or if I should go ahead.
Well you are allowed multiple entries. Maybe it would be okay if you just uploaded this first one. I am curious to see the story you were going to put in your vid.
Updated my post above with the two new videos. Also added English and (imperfect) Spanish subtitles to my own video, woo!

Also, shaned53, I agree with Viciousdex. You should show us what you have, sounds like it'll be an interesting story!

Hope you'll enjoy...

Dunno: Hi,
Though my video is not voiced, I uploaded it anyway. Mostly because I've done it some time ago for fun, anyway, so there's no hurt in trying. Hopefully you won't consider it as spam ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1QbYmVfWVU
Thanks.
I would love to see both of you try and put your voices/stories in your videos. It would be really great to hear why these two titles really made an impact on you!

Epighales, I like your idea of showing the opening speech from Ron Perlman like it's an old computer system. It looks just like the font/color used in the game.

Dunno, your editing and selected sequences you show off were cool. I like seeing the ending of a level be the ending of your video as well!

Thanks Viciousdex for a response. Basically, I just want to use opening sequence because it is really unique from my point of view. Especially, I interested about cold war era and paranoia of nuclear war and Fallout as a game such a great example of that subjects.

I tried not to end up with voice or sound because, english is not my native language and secondly, I think it's too cliche. There are lots of examples, walkthroughs, funny stuffs etc. And also, I did this video for fun. So I don't care about sound.

About font; I searched some stuff on google, like fallout terminal font, etc. and I found this font Fixedsys, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fixedsys
That font is really close what they used on Fallout. Also, Fixedsys one of the earliest digital font which designed for Windows. I just take that font and colored uranium green :)

thanks again.

Viciousdex: I really liked your review. I never really played that game but it does seem like it's wroth a look.
Thanks! It is really nice even while it was somewhat obscure. Warcraft 3 destroyed all the competition on the later year but for me, this game was part of my childhood.

Lodium: Nice job, also your english wasnt bad.
I coud ofcourse hear the accent , and the manner of speaking was a bit stiff but i fully understod what you were saying.
I guess that's the point :D
But yeah, I know, I haven't practiced speaking in english for quite a while.

Flaose: G-Doc said he was going to do it on Friday, but I assume other things got in the way, so here they are, in alphabetical order:

Duke Nukem 3D by Dunno : http://youtu.be/0DYpLq7yHaY

Quest for Glory by Rambutaan: http://youtu.be/0DYpLq7yHaY
same link here.

also, my vote for the chronological order, not the alphabetical.
I gotta say, it was a lot of fun making this. I think this is a really good idea, free advertisement for GOG and we get the chance to gush about our favourite games. Here's my contribution:

Whoops, thanks for the catch. I did consider making it by chronological order, but the list is just easier to read in alphabetical...as well if you're only going to watch one of the videos, it should be Battle Chess!

Great video godofbreadsticks! Makes me want to finally crack out that copy of Psychonauts that I bought a while ago.
Some nasty code gremlins locked me out of our very own forums. Since it seems that the problem was resolved, I will add a list of videos to the OP right away.

Oh, and Flaose--thank you for keeping track :-)

I'm liking the different styles of videos so far. Some guys you can really see their enthusiasm come though. Some are really well polished - others are very informative (e.g. Elratauru's - my favourite so far - puts things in context).

And in the end, everyone is a winner since we get to give more publicity about the games we love :).

Very cool way of making an English video with your limitations. Despite the computer voice, it was pretty clear that you really enjoyed this game when you first played it. Great job!

My thought exactly! I didn't know the Google speech synthesizer could sound natural.
