Superfrog, Alien Breed + Tower Assault, Tropico 3 Gold Edition, Worms 1&2, Cultures series and more 60% off!

Sometimes, we just like to open our treasure chest, grab a handful of great games, and throw them up in the air. Then we dance like mad people, jump around, and laugh as the games rain down on our heads like awesome digital confetti. Then, whatever falls inside a circle we've painted on the floor, we pick up and put on weekend promo. This week's lucky winners are Team 17 classics and strategy games from Kalypso Media. Let's take a quick look at our--let's stick to that--selection of the games you can get 60% off in the [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/kalypso_team_17_weekend_promo_090813]Team 17 and Kalypso Mix weekend promo, shall we?

Team 17 brings in a solid serving of nostalgic fun to the table. Look! Is it a strange little green bird? Is it a tiny plane with a red cape tied around it's cabin for some reason? No! It's ! This classic platformer of the early 16-bit era comes with so many memories, that whoever had the pleasure of playing it in the past, will instantly feel warm and fuzzy inside. All those who haven't played it before can now leap right into the arcade history spanning across 24 colorful levels, for only $2.39! What else from Team 17? [url=http://www.gog.com/game/worms_united]Worms United and Worms 2 managed to wiggle their way into the promo easily, even though some of them got squished while crossing the road overtaken by the World Rally Fever. All the games mentioned here can be yours for only $2.39 each!

From Kalypso, something to go with this summer's tropical heat: Cultures 1+2, an exploration-focused RTS series where you help a Viking tribe on they conquests around the world, you'll get the chance to cool off a bit before your brave warriors decide to invade some place near the equator. Both games can be yours for only $3.99 each.

That's not all. More titles await on our promo page, so make sure you go there and take a look. The promo lasts until Tuesday, August 13, at 3:59AM GMT. Have a great weekend!

Licurg: You don't have direct control over your units (you have some, but not like in a classic RTS, like Age of Empires ). They're actually more management games, like Tropico or Zeus .

Never played the A.D. series (or if I did, I forgot about it )

gandalf.nho: Thanks for the answer
Sorry, I was thinking about something else, you DO have direct control over your units in Cultures .

ZivilSword: Looks like Port Royale 2 is not in sale. I know, it’s a different publisher, but seriously, this is ridiculous. It’s the same series and even from the same developer!
Same with Patrician 3, also published by Strategy First. So it looks like GOG didn't get the nod from them to do a discount.

Might pick up the Patrician deal and Port Royale, though I really don't need more games right now. Though on the plus side I reduced my strategy backlog last night by dropping Perimeter, when a victory conditions glitch cost me a level I had replayed about a dozen times up to that point. :/
Well nothing very appealing for me. After sitting out HB weekly, I'll sit out this too.

undeadcow: Aside from improved graphics; is there any reason to buy/prefer Tropico 3 over Tropico ReLoaded (1+2)?

SSolomon: Kalypso did a excellent job of alleviating many of the earlier Tropico's problems that popped up in the late game. Micro managing wages like crazy to try and keep tropicans working where you need them is gone for example. The pace of the game is also a fair bit better in my opinion. Gone are the decade long building projects. I loved both Tropico 1 & 2, but I honestly believe Tropico 3 improved the series a great deal.
I was wondering which Tropico is better as well. Are most of the differences between the first and third games improvements or simplifications? I don't mind having to micro manage things if it isn't ridiculously tedious. I'd rather have the ability to choose between AI managed and self managed.

More thoughts or preferences would be appreciated.

I played Tropico 1 years ago and Tropico 3 recently but for limited time so my impression may not be very accurate but I do remember that Tropico 1 was very unforgiving. What's worse it's punishing you even though you have no idea which edict/action caused it. For example: people demands better houses so you build them but they won't move in anyway because... they cannot afford it. So you wasted a lot of money and the overall happiness decreased even more. Great! And on the other hand micro managing all those housing areas was a real nuisance. I believe there are not some many frustrating parts like that in Tropico 3

Ghorpm: I think so far I finished every RPG (from GOG) I had started. And that's ~20 games. Sometimes it took me... a year (I'm looking at you, Baldur's Gate) and it's not a big problem for me. Even if take a break for several months I usually remember what should I do after coming back. Perhaps not immediately but an hour is enough to refresh my memory. Baldur's Gate 2 is on hold at the moment...
I give you a lot of credit, that really is commendable. You have my unabashed admiration buddy. I "always" mean to go back and finish, but always end up "just let me start this new game first to see what it's like, then I'll go back to finish that RPG I have neglected for far too long". Never happens though....for shame, I have great willpower in pretty much all other aspects in my life, but goin' back to finish those RPG's I started, just doesn't seem to apply for some reason. So at least from me, my hat goes off to you, wish I could be more like that ;-) Speaking of which, topping the list, is going back to finish Planescape Torment...it's practically blasphemy not to have finished that awesome game....Sssshhhhhhhhhhh >_>

Licurg: Which Worms game should I get ? Of all the 3 on GOG, I only ever played the first one, but I don't remember if I liked it or not . Wish we had Armageddon...
Of those three, I'd recommend the original. Very pixely, but still great fun. Worms 2 isn't shabby either but it can have compatibility issues on certain PCs. As for Forts, it's very different from any of the other main Worms games. Not bad, but it's an acquired taste.

So yeah, Worms 1 would be my choice of those... if I didn't already own all three already. ;)

Novotnus: I wonder if I want to play Alien Breed...
Would be kind of surprising if you wanted to... Well honestly I don't remember much of anything of Alien Breed anymore, but it wasn't very impressive. Played it, umm, in 93 maybe, on Amiga, when I was less than 10 years old, so take it for what it is. : ) According to the description the Tower Assault might be interesting though.

What a brilliant way to run a business!
I'll take a few notes about that for Monday's steering committee...

Ghorpm: Strategies are my second biggest group of unfinished games. And the winner is... RPG. Seriously, I should stop buying them. The problem is it usually take more time to beat an average RPG than any other game. I've just recently beaten Geneforge 2 (it's an excellent game!) and I don't even remember when I started it.

Zoltan999: I hear ya. While more often than not, I finish the majority of the good strategy games I start, I'd hate to count the number of RPG's I started, put some serious time into, then "took a break", and never got back to finish them. My biggest problem with RPG's is I tend to be a "completionist", and I wear myself out trying to find/do everything, then, as a result, grow a bit weary, and take a breather...while I really mean to come back and finish, I just never seem to actually do just that :-/.
So do I... I have that issue with all kind of games, but with a high proportion of RPGs, as they take some time to finish.
I even made a spreadsheet to help me keep track of my progress and set priorities about which games to complete first...
Tropico and Omerta seem quite enticing but the price range for GOG discounted items seems on the high side. hmmmm...

Doh, I bought Tropico Reloaded during the summer sale thinking Tropico 3 was just a graphical overhaul. Looks like I picked up the wrong one. Might have to get Tropico 3 while its only $6.
I already have the tropicos. What is real tempting to me is the Cultures. I never heard of them or played them when released. Right now, I am just debating whether to get both packs or just one.
I just bought Tropico Reloaded. I have no idea why. Life is strange.
I caved and bought Patrician 1+2, Port Royale, Tropico Reloaded, and all four Cultures. I'd like to say that games are my cheap alternative to crack, but at this stage that's really no longer true.
