It's not really a matter of whether or not games work with Games Explorer, more a question of whether or not Games Explorer is a bit crap and basic and won't even let you edit the order of the list or add new games that it has missed.
You'll just have to create your own shortcut list in the start menu.

No, the games explorer format is more clearly defined now than it was in its first incarnation in Vista - thus some games that worked fine in Vista does not work in 7. Similar to HTML, some pages that does follow HTML 3 are invalid when tried as as HTML 4.01 strict. Unlike a web browser however, Games Explorer does not take into accounts old versions of the definition and only correctly interprets games that register themselves according to the current version.
Working:
Commandos+expansion
Ground Control 2
The Incredible Machine
The Longest Journey
VR Soccer 96
Not:
Fallout
Fallout 2
Kingdom
Kingpin
Lionheart
MDK
Messiah

To extend your analogy they should have used HTML 4.01 Transitional.

My sentiments exactly.

Transitional is perfect for documents created from the old standard but trying to identify as new. It shouldn't be needed at all if people actually cared to follow the standard and to tell which one they do follow when coding their document.
The analogy still works though - some of the Vista GE definitions still work as expected in 7 GE, some don't, and there are some new that didn't exist then.

To your surprise, apparently we do.
I use iTunes (or Windows Media Player or other library-using player) because I like how it creates a library of my music, others prefer to order everything in a folder structure of their own design, or just dump everything in one place.
I use the Games Explorer because it keeps shortcuts to my games (with a few exceptions, admittedly) in one place instead of me having to playing hide-and-seek through the start menu for each game or order everything myself.
All this is off topic though. What's on topic is adding to the list, and discussing it. It's like derailing a tread about a specific game by going into specific workings of various DRM schemes.
Game Explorer is the comparable to an icon free desktop. It rocks when it works right, the check for updates feature is cool!
The "Libraries" feature is amazing.... if only the Games Explorer worked just as well.
I used to use the Games Explorer a lot with Vista. But with 7, I find that the Start Menu is indexed well enough that I would rather just search for the game I want to play.
That being said, the Libraries IS great (even if it is annoying to have the separate folders listed in the view), but it definitely shows the failings of the Games Explorer. If only because the only way I know to access the Games Explorer is the start menu shortcut.
Nah I don't use Game Explorer....

Fallout 1 didn't install right for me. Unspecified. Is mine being stupid or something? So far everything is showing up unspecified.

Err... scratch that one, and two. I made a mistake somewhere. Unless the installers have been fixed by now, that is.

Topic is a bit misleading.
Not working with Games Explorer != Not working with Windows 7.

Why? The games work fine. They just don't show up right in explorer like they do in Vista. :p
