I'm sure Weclock will be laughing his ass off right now about about 11 am GMT I tried logging into Steam, (in fact just to see what the weekend deal was) and it tells me my account is disabled. Seriously not even an e-mail to tell my why just turned off like that. I sent an e-mail to their support asking why and as of 7pm GMT I still haven't had an answer. I have to say that unless a game is ONLY available on Steam I think I will be buying from Impulse or GamersGate even if the cost is slightly higher from now on.
You haven't been accepting a load of gifts from unknown people have you?
That's how it works, it's total bullshit.

Never had anyone gift me anything on Steam. Infact the only activity in the last few weeks was removing the Arkham Asylum demo.

How long did it take for them to reply to you and sort it out?

I'd love to see their explanation for that one. Not that you're even going to get one.

Well I am going to demand an explanation because as far as I can tell my account along with all the 100 odd games has been disabled for no reason whatsoever.

As well you should. Please keep us updated on how this mess progresses.

you probably won't get a reply until monday.
The problems with digital downloads and new-style DRM methods.
This is why I still like to buy retail games, and avoid steam. I just don't like the risk of something like this happening, even if the risk is very small.
If i were a stEAm fanboy i would tell you that if this kind of thing bothers you (not being able to play the games you paid for without a shred of explanation from valvEA or stEAm i mean), you should probably get a new hobby other than gaming and stop buying games all togheter, as that seems to be one of the prevailing philosophies amongst fanboys these days.
Since i'm not a fanboy, i'll say that it sucks big time that you got your account disabled, and that i really hope you get it back real soon.
I'm sure you'll get it back though, as this seems to be yet another instance of the widely known 'We just can't get our shit togheter' stEAm fuck up.

Oh, but the wonders of buying retail games that are just download codes.

They dont need a reason. Its in the EULA. So dont expect anything no matter how loudly you complain.
One thing you could try though is if you dont get any answer for a while fire a letter off to a well known games mag like pcgamer. Ive seen it done before and things got sorted probably a little quicker than they otherwise might have been.

That is extremely unacceptable given how early I sent the complaint.

Exactly what I will be doing. The only way to get to companies is to attempt to affect their sales.

It is a well known fact that they get very lazy on Fridays, then leave for the entire weekend.

Why do people accept such shoddy practices? As gamers, we should be boycotting such things, and letting companies know that we wont put up with being treated like criminals or scum.
Unfortunately, lots of people either accept it, or actually praise such things... Sometimes I don't understand people.
