Wish EA would stop killing off their beloved franchises with crap games they already killed red alert with the console friendly number 3 now they want to destroy Ultima name with a crap game sigh what next.

If you look at the sales of Final Fantasy, Elder Scrolls, Fallout3, etc... I can't work out why EA isn't churning out Ultima games like there's no tomorrow. We should be up to Ultima 23 by now, like Final Fantasy.
Instead we're producing Evony clones...

We'd be up to 47 if we counted all those.
But that's a good point, if Sqenix can make millions by continually re-releasing the classic FF games on new systems, why aren't we getting Ultima1 DS, Ultima 2 iphone, ultima 4 wii, etc?

Dang man you counted? lol I just meant the Crystal chronicles, chocobo's dungeon and um... crap way to much coffee today...
But yeah... very good point, ive got 7 and 8 ff for my psp... and if 9 would ever download id have that one as well.... then the 1-6 and all that.... it is odd tho they dont seem to like money or something

From wikipedia (important part in bold):
The canceled MMORPG Ultima X: Odyssey (2004) would have continued the story of Ultima IX. Now merged with the Guardian, the Avatar creates a world of Alucinor inside his mind, where the players were supposed to pursue the Eight Virtues in order to strengthen him and weaken the Guardian. Ultima X was developed without participation of the original creator Richard Garriott and he no longer owns the rights to the series. However, he still owns the rights to several of the game characters so it is impossible for either him or Electronic Arts to produce a new Ultima title without getting permission from each other.
Soooo...sounds like this is EA's way of getting around Garriott's ownership of the old characters.

I love how EVERY SINGLE response to this is "I haven't played it, but they ruined Ultima!"
Here is an idea: Maybe, just maybe, you should give it a shot before you say they "ruined" Ultima (and, let's be honest, that horse was sodomized and killed a while ago).
Everyone complains that the franchises they like are gone, then they go crazy when they come back.
Is it a good game or "worthy" of the Ultimate title? Probably not, but none of us know. But I will say this:
Go look at how NMA (and a large portion of the Fallout community) reacted to Fallout 3. Now look at how it has been embraced by the majority of the Fallout fans as "different, but still great".

I wouldn't say a "majority", most Fallout fans I know still have problems with Fallout 3.

Yes it's the Oblivion fans that have moved to Fallout 3 since it's pretty much post apocalyptic Oblivion.

Acturally, I didn't make any negative comments. I merely suggested a probable reason (rights issues) for why the new game will take a fairly radical departure from the gameplay style of the old series. I've never played any of the Ultima games, and as such have no opinion on their quality.
