Loved Witcher 1.

At W2 I'm now about escaped from the jail and so far I hate everything here.

It's been a cutscene -> chit chat with no choices to make -> a wave of enemies, clickety click sign sign clickety click -> click click keyboard swiftness challenge -> tunnel run -> cutscene - > wave of enemies -> clickety click -> wave of enemies... and so on..

There will be actual roleplaying? Not just selecting from 4 similar answers with the same outcome.
There will be freeform wandering about and exploring? Not just running along a predetermined path/tunnel killing hordes of enemies.

Tell me only the beginning is like this!? Please...
I'm almost ready to give up already.
Wait until you get to Flotsam. It gets MUCH better from Flotsam on.

EDIT: That is to say that you get to run around and do sidequests and play the game the way you want once you get to Flotsam. There's just one little thing you have to do once you get there, and then the game actually starts :)

The first 4 hours of so of the game is the Prologue.... Until you see "Act 1" you aren't actually playing the 'real' game.

Remember the how linear the Prologue was in TW1? Way more linear then this prologue.

gets much much better..then you hit act 3,and its over in a flash.

Yeah, most of the prologue felt like one big cut scene to me. I wasn't crazy about it, but it gets better after the prologue. I too prefer TW1. But TW2 has its good points.
As far as roleplaying goes; I'd compare the game to Mass Effect in that you get to make decisions... but they are limited to decisions that Geralt would make.

You go to towns and environments that you can wander, explore, do sidequests, etc. The main quest is a funnel of course, but even here there are decisions and branching paths that you can take.

yeah act 3 is a gamebreaker and feels unfinished. I hope CDP Red makes some DLC's or even an add on.
TW2 is far more of a role playing game than Mass Effect, in every single aspect.
People need to get their head around the idea of what role-playing actually is. A game doesn't have to let you create a new character with a blank page to be filled during the game.
Your Geralt is very much your Geralt, in my first playthrough my Geralt was a guy hellbent on neutrality (carrying over from a TW1 save with the neutral path as well) who insisted not to get involved in politics and the only reason he was even going through it all is to find Triss.
Second Geralt was very different. This is what role playing is actually all about.

I'd also say decisions in TW2 have far bigger impact than in ME\ME2. Mass Effect throws some pretty big decisions at you but they're only big as far as the game world is concerned, the game itself doesn't change much if at all according to them, whereas in TW2 the story develops in a very different way and your decisions also affect the content you have access to.

The 'real' game starts at Flotsam indeed. Acts 1 and 2 are fantastic, it's a damn shame Act 3 feels so damn rushed.

I disagree. Mass Effect offers 3-4 decisions in the game. TW2 has a decision at the end of essentially every quest.
rather a no. of dlcs i hope they make a meaty expansion worth around 20 hours. that'd be awesome
Prologue is a training period so you can unlearn the better stuff that was in W1!!
Yea try to enjoy it after all, you spent money on it.
It's lacking in pathos not like TW1, Character development is hack and slash to me!!
Pretty dumb potion system, breaks up the "RPG" experience.

Waiting to see if Skyrim will be a real RPG game!!

Started with a 10 for me, now its about a 7.5!! Edit: >8.5

Oh I'm still in the prologue! :D
Ok then, soldiering on. Thanks for the encouragement.

BTW, also loved Mass Effect 1 and very disappointed in 2. Loved Dragon Age 1 and... heard nothing but dislikable things of 2 so it's yet to be experienced. And since it was mentioned, gave up on Assasins creed a few hours into the game.

---
Edit. With Skyrim mentioned as well, and after coming from Fallout New Vegas, it's pretty jarring to see Geralt stopped cold by some knee high fence or whatever. :)

Liked the first one, don't care about this one. Help people where I can on it, but would have much rather spent my money on a Witcher1 expansion, than this one.

UI makes it a chore, and since I like to relax, develop, and play, this one sits idle. Great company to this point, but not the groundbreaker Witcher1 was.

Will be lots of hate, but is my opinion. Game is for different audience than the first, and am glad new people are enjoying the story. Just wish an alternative were available.

Yes you are right..the game is sorta for a different audience. I like both games, but I'd have to say TW1 is better. If they release a worthy expansion and fix the UI to be pc friendly, I may change my mind.

**SPOILER**

Another thing that pisses me off is poor ol Geralt only sleeps with whores + an elf/succubus or Ves and Triss ... no random encounters

And basically no drinking or drinking contests...cant even fight drunk anymore
