To give maybe a different point of view, I never played The Witcher nor did I read any of the books (I would like to, however). I'm currently playing through TW2 and, while there are obviously parts of the story that I don't understand, this has not lessened my enjoyment of the game at all. Compare that to when I tried playing Mass Effect 2 without having played the first one, I was totally lost and hated all the default decisions the game made for me since I had no prior save to import.

So if they plan to make TW3 "inviting to new players" in the same way TW2 is, then I don't think anyone has anything to worry about.

If anything scares me, it's the fact that you can't spell "Witcher" correctly despite it being the name of this forum. :)

This is because we're looking at the difference between CD Projekt and Biowaste. One of these things is not like the other. One of these things knows how to write.

That was exactly my point, though! I don't think there's any need to worry about CDPR ruining The Witcher 3 by making it "too inviting" to new players, because their history proves otherwise.
If there is one thing that scares me, is that The Witcher series might as well have the same flaws that the Mass Effect series had. Every choice didn't have a real consequence on the story. Ultimately, your choices didn't matter. The Witcher 2 already did this by ignoring several important choices on The Witcher:
-Your choice between Shani and Triss gets completely ignored and forces Triss upon you. Chose Shani? Too bad, you only get a Characters log update.
-Your "personality test" quest, where you determined the new Geralt's personality, where certain responses and actions determined your behavior and Geralt's thoughts on various matters, gets entirely ignored.
-Your choice between the Order, the Scoia'tael or The Witcher's path only changes a dialog with Siegfried that may or may not appear, depending on your choice.
-Giving Jacques de Aldersberg's soul to the Wild Hunt, or not giving it and fighting him (it could have been an important cameo, considering we're fighting the Wild Hunt and his knights).

There were also plenty of small decisions that were dismissed because The Witcher 2 started on "an entirely new story", but can't be criticized right now because they might appear on The Witcher 3. If CDPR forgets about these "small" decisions just like they did on TW2, then I'm out. I'm not willing to support the rise of another modern Bioware all over again.
witcher 3 unfortunately has the stink of 'maximizing profit' about it. im NOT going to get into other... recent... console related events, but everything about the game makes me feel that cdpr knows this game is likely to get them into the big leagues as developers, and so every decision has been about maximising exposure and potential profits.

i have no doubt its going to be a great game (already preordered it on steam) but its pretty clear they know they're on to a major 'mover' in gaming, and its only natural that some ideals and principles get pushed to the side sad to say.
