Did you read in the notes/ readme about sound..thought I read about sound issues.

First thing I thought was HDMI but your not using that for input!! I hope u didn't actually hit your mute button on keyboard or something silly like that?
Hehe no didnt do that, I am still getting most of the sound. Just not the voices. :(
Having the same problem, myself. I've tried: Rebooting, changing from 7.1 to 5.1, old saves, changing voice over language, and using headphones.

It seems to have happened after I loaded a save game in the middle of a dialogue, and after the game randomly exited.

UPDATE: I managed to "fix" it, but I'm not sure how. I moved my saves out of the directory and started a new game, just to see if that would work. Strangely, it did. I moved the saves back into the directory and loaded one, but the sound didn't work again. So, on a whim, I went and started a new game again. After the sounds worked there, I just loaded one of my saves (without quitting) and it worked fine. Yes, convoluted steps...but they seemed to get me ambient sound and voices back.

And again a big thank you to a participant in this forum. Had the same problem and the "fix" worked like a charm here too.

One of the weirder bugs I ever encountered...

Geralt doesn't speak very loud anyways Cat has got his tongue!!
Glad it worked for you, Jaquar. I was sort of wondering if it was just a random chance that it worked or if I actually did something useful.

Yes, it's quite weird. Were I to guess, I'd say that there's some sort of "release" of sound resources that's supposed to happen...but if something interrupts that, it causes the sound engine to think that something is still using it.

Having tested it a few times, I found I could reproduce the problem, too. It does seem to be connected to loading saved games. On four different attempts now, I've managed to lose different aspects of sound if I load a save during dialogue. I managed to lose music, while keeping sound effects and voice...I managed to lose ambient sound and music, keeping voices and effects...I lose voices and ambient sounds, but kept music and effects...and lost voices, effects, and ambient sounds while keeping music.

I'm posting this in case it helps with a future patch or a more permanent fix from the devs or community. =)
It does seem as if I rejoiced a little prematurely. While voice was back initially, music was gone and starting a new game seems to roll the dice which one stays and which one goes...

I'm not exactly sure if this is somehow connected to the windows 7 visual c++ 2010 update I performed just prior to the aforementioned sound bugs. According to the official webiste there seems to be a problem related with the launcher and said component, but it beats the hell outta me if it could be responsible for the sound drops.
Just got this bug, it's super annoying. Going to try an earlier save and hope that fixes it. What's with devs releasing games so riddled with bugs these days?
I suppose it is a quite complex piece of software which has to run on a myriad of different hardware combinations, with a new engine so there are bound to be some bugs. Right now everything is back to functioning again, so I will just have to play through without stopping...;-)
When you've been staring at the same lines of code or running the same tests on a piece of software over and over for a really long period of time (the time it takes to make a game, for example), you often stop looking at it with the same scrutiny. Not to say you give up on it, but you're used to seeing it all in whatever form. Authors have the same problem and have tend to have several people proof read the work at different stages. Too bad we can't quite do that with code. =)

Yes, Jaquar, I also found that it isn't a perfect fix...but it does seem to eventually sort out by doing it. It's better than not being able to play at all, at least. =)
Same happened to me. X-fi gamer card. Played fine and then went to load and all sound except voices play now. I also had another glitch where it wouldn't let me save for like an hour, I just kept playing hoping it would fix but it didn't and once I went out of town, I got in a battle and I couldn't even draw any weapons no matter what I tried, so I died and since I couldn't save and it didn't auto-save, I lost over an hour of play time.

funny but true! :D
I aslo have this audio problem and will try to do the save swap thing to get voices back.
@Xorbius: had the same problem with curtain keys not responding, do NOT save because if you do the problem gets saved as well and when you load the keys will still not work. :D

I just wish that some of the devs. and/or forum staff would reply to this thread and tell us they are looking into these bugs...
